Puzzle Fighter takes what could have been a great, addicting game and hampers itself with micro-transactions and limited single-player mode.

With how the reward and progression system works, it would be easy to write off Puzzle Fighter as another beloved series shamelessly monetized for the mobile era. And I’m sure many people will do just that. While a part of me wishes there was a more amicable way of doling out special attack cards, I’m really having far too much fun with it to care all that much.

The free-to-play model obscures the answer to this question so much that Puzzle Fighter never really feels satisfying, at least not in the way it used to. Instead, the main draw is the appeal of unlocking things, rather than developing your puzzle-matching skills.

You’ll enjoy moments of Puzzle Fighter but it’s rarely enough, and it’s certainly not enough to make you want to throw money at the situation. The basic formula might be correct, but, ultimately, Puzzle Fighter feels a little lazy at heart.

Visually, Puzzle Fighter has a polished look when it comes to the character models and the game pieces on the board. The game's rendered in 3D with the characters and the backdrops, and even the gems have a bit of depth to them.

Puzzle Fighter is a grind-filled, boring puzzle game that feels like a dinosaur compared to modern titles.
