- Even if the perspective was better, though, Project Root is just a dull game. It’s hard to find reasons to change tactics and few curveballs are thrown, even in additional objectives. While the shooting itself is solid and the power-ups do mix things up, Project Root can’t overcome its inherent flaws; flaws that come from an awkward mix of genres. It gets points for creativity, but most of Project Root is either awkward or dull, and sometimes, both.
Alex Carlson · May 11, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Project Root delivers on its promise of a bullet-hell style game with twin stick controls, but the mixture comes with plenty of issues. Those looking for a grindy-challenging affair that is mechanically sound will not find their money wasted, but I still wish it was fine-tuned for a more enjoyable experience.
Ken McKown · May 08, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - A ponderous, plodding shooter with levels that drag on for aeons, that champions boring conservatism over death-defying aerobics. One of the least exciting shoot-'em-ups I've ever played.
Alex Dale · May 07, 2015 Reviewed onRead full review - Overall, Project Root can be enjoyable at times, but largely it is just so bland and mundane that it’s hard to recommend. It’s a shame, because the game has some good ideas, but the execution is just so far off the mark that it ends up being little more than an exercise in repetition and frustration. I can only imagine the most devout of shoot’em up fans spending any considerable time with this title I’m afraid.
Rich · May 06, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall though, you've got a competent little shoot-em-up in Project Root that offers bite-sized chunks of explosive enjoyment, though it can become repetitive quite quickly. That said - it’s a base for OPQAM’s future developments and interesting to see how they improve with Dogos.
Steven John Dawson · May 26, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Project Root is a frustrating game because there is a genuinely good shooter hidden under a number of poor design choices. It is rather like a Michael Bay movie in that when it works, it works really well, with explosions going off left, right and centre, hundreds of bullets and a genuine sense of excitement. However, it also shares the same problems and the levels are far too sprawling, the plot is terrible and sometimes you have no idea what is going on.
Tuffcub · May 07, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Project Root has its heart in the right place, but the lack of forethought from the developers – who absolutely must have seen some of the gameplay's design flaws, given that they appear in every single level at least a handful of times – prevents it from ever reaching its potential. When you're not feeling that frustration, you'll likely be bored with circle-strafing your way through every single level.
Ken Barnes · May 06, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - It doesn't help that the objectives are fairly samey in the first place. Destroy something. Protect something. It all amounts to the same thing, and the only difference is the small piece of text in the top corner, pointing out your aim. The levels are very similarly designed, and the music is usually similar, too. ...It's not a bad game – not like Rambo or Ride to Hell: Retribution – it's just very, very boring. There needs to be a reason to play, and there's just nothing here to get excited about.

About the game
Prometheus Corporation is the leader in the generation and distribution of energy to all cities in the world. Due to the ideas and designs of charismatic president Demetrio Watts, the corporation developed new technologies producing higher quantities of energy at a lower cost, granting them near-absolute control of the market.
The friendly policies enforced by Prometheus and Demetrio Watts has made citizens confident they will have access to electricity in their houses every day. However, very few of them are aware of what's behind Demetrio Watts' smile or behind the scenes in Prometheus Corporation. Secret plans. Terrible plans. Plans which will take the population by surprise. When they realize what is going on, it will already be too late.
A group of rebels are the only ones who know Demetrio and his company's true intentions, and will do everything it takes to bring the truth to light about the person who pretends to be their eternal benefactor. It will not be easy or agreeable, but the danger behind what Prometheus hides within is a threat to all. Stopping Demetrio Watts is in the hands of a group of unknowns. Depends on Arcturus.
