- Powerstar Golf doesn't change much to the formula of pleasant casual golf titles. Though it's more difficult than it needs to be, is slightly short on content, and is focused on randomized upgrades, Powerstar Golf fits well within the genre, doesn't cost much at all, and give even the best pros a run for their money. With a little more development time, Zoe Mode could make Powerstar Golf 2 the premier golf title on next-gen consoles.
Nick Tan · Dec 03, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Sure, some may find the grind for EXP a little tough at times, but if you want to be lazy and collect everything, you can choose to use real money, but what fun is that. At the end of day Powerstar Golf isn’t a must own game, but it does stand as a downloadable title that Xbox One owners may want to seriously look at as it offers up a nice change of pace from the big budget launch games during the winter gaming season.
Kirby Yablonski · Nov 29, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Powerstar Golf borrows a lot of what works from other, better golf games, but does an admirable job being it’s the only golf game on the next-gen market. There’s a lot of content here for the price, but most of that content is hidden away in collectible card packs, which can suffocate your progress at times. Still, Zoe Mode has done a nice job with Powerstar, and with four courses and six characters, you shouldn’t run out of excuses to play a round any time soon.
Luke Brown · Nov 27, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - It's two steps forward, two steps back — simultaneously a look at the promising future of the next generation of consoles and its likely frustrations. Powerstar Golf made me feel like I was competing with my friends without having to actually coordinate with them and get them into a match. It builds the type of seamless social experience that I'm hopeful we'll see a lot more of on this generation of consoles.
Philip Kollar · Nov 26, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Thankfully, Powerstar Golf makes your time on the links enjoyable, whether or not you have any interest in sinking money into microtransactions to get some extra goodies. This game covers well-trodden territory, but the way that it tracks your performance and the performance of your friends makes it a fine fit for the Xbox One's launch lineup, and a pleasant way to spend some time.
Carolyn Petit · Nov 25, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Powerstar Golf succeeds at doing what all golf games should strive for: making you really feel like your skill grows the more you play. And it has fun doing it, with a cheery, inviting atmosphere and a carefree approach to friendly rivalries. ...But even with microtransactions occasionally muddling the mixture, this is still one of the most enjoyable, whimsical golf games around. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go perfect the timing of my tap-tap-tap swing.
Lucas Sullivan · Nov 21, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - In the end, Powerstar Golf isn't particularly special, but it'll win over the hearts of golf fans for sure. If all you're looking to do is whack a ball down a course on a next-gen system with the occasional bit of positive reinforcement, Powerstar is your huckleberry.
Chris Carter · Nov 20, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Powerstar Golf manages to successfully marry an old-school arcade golf experience with some decidedly new-school ideas. The lack of proper online multiplayer is a bit of a blow, but the Rivals mode has the potential to provide an ongoing challenge after you’ve scooped up all of the career medals. It’s not a complete hole in (Xbox) One for golf fans, but it’s a good deal of fun if you desperately want to hit the links on your new machine.
Tristan Ogilvie · Nov 18, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Powerstar Golf is a game that’s unpolished in places, but also superbly fun and dangerously addictive at times. Mastering the game will take a fair amount of time, and there’s no doubt in our minds that what you get is easily worth the asking price. Well worth a spin.
Ken Barnes · Nov 30, 2013 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Despite its exaggerated cartoon characters and picturesque sunsets, Powerstar Golf feels surprisingly staid and lacking personality. This is further exacerbated by the isolating feeling that, without sofa buddies, you're always playing alone. ...Powerstar Golf adds some nice touches to a genre presided over by Everybody's Golf, but its limited scope and some baffling omissions ultimately scupper its chances of outscoring its rival.
