  • For the most part, it's another fantastic entry to the series. Moreover, it's a great game to re-introduce old fans of the series with its graphical and mechanical upgrades. If Pokemon X or Y interests you, consider picking it up; unless you're completely turned off of the franchise, you'll find much to enjoy in this 3DS game.

  • Pokémon X and Y makes the classic series feel brand new. I can remember the feeling I had when playing Pokémon Red for the first time and when I began this new journey and it instantly felt like I was ten years old again. For the first time in years, doing things like running into and catching Pidgey felt brand new.

  • There’s so much to say about Pokémon X and Y that it would be a disservice not to simply suggest that you pick either game up and set out on your own journey of discovery. Regardless of the challenges needed to be overcome for this latest generational leap, each version easily amounts to the most thorough experiences to have ever graced the series through the years. Be sure that you don’t miss out.

  • ...are a perfect place for both veteran Pokemon trainers to get back into the series and newcomers to start their journey alike

  • Even with all of these renovations, innovations, and--yes, we're going to just go ahead and say it--evolutions, Pokémon X and Y still feel like a Pokémon game in the end. Sure, you're going to spend some of the time petting your Pikachu and you get to choose multiple starters, but X and Y eventually land in the comfort zone fans have found themselves in for six generations.

  • Pokémon’s X and Y are a massive step forward for the franchise and will stand for years to come as arguably the best Pokémon game yet, if not the best RPG on the market, and definitely a reason to own a 3DS on its own. Even the shoehorned story is vaguely interesting. Pokémon games have gone through a lot of changes through the years but thankfully this one stuck to its core strengths and came out on top, with only a few niggling remarks (that don’t take away from the experience) to make my resounding last statement is that this latest generation is damn near perfect.

  • X & Y are two of the best 3DS games available and succeed in making Pokémon feel next-gen. Before 2000, when Pokémon fever took hold I wondered what it would be like to become a true Pokémon master on a home console like the Nintendo 64. Pokémon X & Y are that adolescent fantasy come to life, an ultimate and truly next-generation adventure in a familiar world. Parts might seem all too familiar, but others are delightfully foreign and new.

  • So, what is our conclusion? Well, with just the right mix of nostalgia and new features, as well as beautiful, colourful graphics, and a very impressive online experience, Pokémon X and Y both offer a refreshing change to the much loved series that both newcomers and long time fans can appreciate, and these games are one of the best titles available for the 3DS system to date. It is a must own for any 3DS owner.

  • And the Pokemon themselves are back in full force. There were some standouts, but the last few generations of Pokemon design have felt a bit forced, as if generic everyday object got 'mon' slapped on the end and that was the driving force behind making many of the new designs. It feels like there's a breath of creative fresh air in the new Pokemon in X and Y.

  • Ultimately, we recommend Pokemon X or Y (your choice, we suggest looking up the Pokemon exclusive to either title and for you to chose based on your preference), for anyone with a 3DS. Rising above Luigi's Mansion, Ocarina of Time 3D and Fire Emblem, Pokemon X and Y is the primary reason to own a 3DS, excelling well beyond our expectations.
