  • Despite its brevity, this is the most accessible and entertaining game yet in the PixelJunk series. The unique puzzles are a lot of fun to solve, but it's the sheer joy of existing in this world that makes Shooter so difficult to put down. The cartoony visuals and hypnotic soundtrack build on the initial appeal while the silky smooth controls make it fun just to fly around. Misleading name aside, PixelJunk Shooter is a clever puzzle game that always manages to entertain.

  • PixelJunk Shooter's unique mechanics and terrific audiovisual design still make it stand out in ways that most downloadable releases lack. Like the other games in the line, PixelJunk Shooter's got style. The great-looking graphics and cohesive soundtrack make it a lot easier to look past the game's structural issues and a lot easier to recommend, too. PixelJunk Shooter is most definitely worth playing, but it leaves you wanting more in both the positive and negative senses of the term.

  • The audio channel is filled with a chill mix of beats and samples that at first seems out of place in the sci-fi setting, and then somehow starts to feel just right. PixelJunk Shooter carries just the right challenge to evoke concentration, but never so much that it halts progression. The concept is original, the aesthetics are striking, and the game behind it all is a simple, condensed package of fun.

  • PixelJunk Shooter's music is similarly memorable. The score was composed by High Frequency Bandwidth, a group with a keen pedigree in the realm of ambient music, and the results are great. The way the music fades in and out and seems to match the pace of what's happening onscreen works contributes to an unforgettable vibe. PixelJunk Shooter is slick, addictive, and memorable, and more than worth the $10 dollars it'll set you back. It's also clear that this is just the first installment in what we're hoping is a long, ongoing inquiry into the science of fun.

  • Sure, it doesn't quite have the same novel gameplay hook (or even the surprisingly artistic look and sound) of Q-Games' previous PSN effort, PixelJunk Eden. But PixelJunk Shooter is still an absolute blast (no pun intended) to play, with enough charm and originality to make it another strong addition to Sony's already solid downloadable game library.

PixelJunk Shooter is a brilliantly simple and addictive title, which is basically what we've come to expect from Q-Games. The mix of elements and the way they're handled is nothing short of fantastic, and all of the collection mechanics make for an experience that you can really dig in to. Absolutely do not miss this.

  • PixelJunk Shooter is an enjoyable, quirky game that's yet another successful entry in the PixelJunk series. And, as with all the PixelJunk games, it's right up PSN's street, a service that's fast becoming the home of the weird and interesting. There can be no doubt that the game's over too soon, but the journey is still worth travelling. When water meets lava... Well, that's worth the asking price alone.

  • If it weren’t for my dislike of Racer I would think the Pixeljunk series could do no wrong. Another year and we have another great Pixeljunk game in the form of Pixeljunk Shooter. Sure, the value is only average and it is kind of an easy game, but the fluid physics are beautiful to watch, the puzzle gameplay is an interesting departure from the norms for the genre, and I cannot wait to play the hinted-at encore.

  • PixelJunk Shooter is a taut, well-made and original game that's been lavished with good design and slick coding. It won't detain you long - and without giving too much away, the post-credits kill-screen suggests a DLC expansion is highly likely, as does PixelJunk's past history. But for every minute of those few hours, it's an unpredictable, fluidly entertaining blast.
