- Since leveling up doesn’t make characters more powerful, the only way to change a character’s stats is through weapons and shields. This aspect is very half-baked. Remember, only humans can hold weapons and shields and the rest of their attire is cosmetic only. To make matters worse the differences of the weapons are snore-worthy.
Wyatt Daniels · Apr 03, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Despite its combat’s limitations, I adored Pit People’s lively world with all its crazy characters and absurd situations. There are tons of items to get, fighters to capture and quests to complete in its delightfully rendered areas, but it’s mainly The Behemoth’s approach to humor, both in a visual and written sense, that makes me look back at my time with the game and smile.
Woozie · Mar 27, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Pit People offers a ton of game to chew on, and while it might not be the deepest tactical RPG, it manages to translate The Behemoth’s distinctive style while providing an entertaining, often engaging strategic experience. It might not reach the insane heights of BattleBlock Theater’s take on the 2D platformer, but Pit People almost does something even more impressive, by taking an often opaque genre and turning it into an enjoyable romp.
Michael Goroff · Mar 14, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Pit People's irreverent appeal isn't enough to make it stand alongside the greats, but it's entertaining and mildly engrossing. It maintains the cartoonish charm that The Behemoth always imbues their games with, and the gameplay cycle does a solid job of getting you invested in your scrappy team of fighters. Hopefully, over time, Pit People will build more of an audience and the online modes will improve, but even if you prefer to just stick to the single-player campaign, it's a fun time.
James O'Connor · Mar 13, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There's so much to love about Pit People, it's hard to nail its single best quality. The simple-to-pick-up strategy gameplay is fantastic, as are the options to make it tougher through the Insane Difficulty toggle or through enabling Permadeath. There's the off-the-wall humor, filled with one-liners, anachronisms, and even the gibberish voices that sound like the Canadians from South Park invaded. There's the mind-blowing amount of recruitable allies and the room for experimentation. And there's the co-op aspect of the game, which leaves room for a friend.
Ozzie Mejia · Mar 12, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - When all is said and done, it’s the potential for laughter that proves to be Pit People’s standout achievement. The tactical gameplay is interesting and entertaining, but the comedy is the star of the show here. I enjoyed my time with The Behemoth’s new, funky world, as well as the cast of lovable characters who inhabit it, and will fondly remember many of its gags for a long time to come.
Javy Gwaltney · Mar 07, 2018 Reviewed on XB1 - The catchy song that plays over Pit People’s ending credits (and has been stuck in my head for the last several days) proclaims: “And it all makes sense now!” That might be overstating things, since its tactical battles never played out the way I expected due to each character having a mind of their own when it comes to what to actually attack or heal. But pit People’s weird world has a special, quirky way of being amusing no matter what you’re doing. I enjoyed it mostly in small doses, as the bright colors, twisted sense of humor, and goofy, energetic soundtrack can get to be a little much sometimes.
T.J · Mar 05, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As far as I'm concerned, The Behemoth is now four for four. And while Pit People doesn't quite nab the crown as my new favorite game from the studio, I love the risks it takes to shake up strategy RPGs. It's a wild, creative, occasionally erratic game. Pit People is imperfect, but it's so worth your time.
Jordan Devore · Mar 02, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The biggest downside to Pit People is it doesn’t last long. Only taking a few hours to play through it will definitely leave you wanting more. Though if it were to be longer they’d need to add a little something to make the battle system a little bit more engaging. It’s not too bad after a few hours but if they were to add to the length I can see it getting pretty boring after a while.
James Boote · Feb 28, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In terms of sound design, The Behemoth has done an apt job in conveying the same over-the-top and eclectic patchwork aesthetic of Pit People through the music, which consists of quirky electronic and dance tracks featuring the talent of Patric Catani, who has provided music for The Behemoth titles in the past. The music meshes perfectly with the colourful and stylized cartoon-like look of the game.
