  • Pistol Whip is super cool, and the best way to play it is on PSVR2. Not only do you get the most optimized experience on PSVR2 in performance, you also have a plethora of ways to play the game, with thirty tracks to enjoy. It’s a perfect pick for something both unique and familiar for VR enthusiasts picking up a PSVR2.

  • It’s a simple concept executed perfectly. Picking off-targets, especially when dual-wielding pistols, makes you feel like a badass, and the brilliant soundtrack makes it hard to not play along to the beat.

  • With the fresh new campaign, and the brand new Styles system, Smoke & Thunder gives us a ton of new ways to play. The soundtrack now has a whopping 28 tracks and scenes, and is every bit Cloudhead Games at their very best.

  • Even though Pistol Whip has a small musical offering at the moment, it's one of the best VR experiences I have played on PSVR and in general. It's easy to pick up, great to play, and tough to put down, and ultimately, that's all it's about. It isn't rich in features yet, but with a content roadmap in place, this potentially looks like "the next big thing," although it's marginally held back by a lack of content and song variety for now.

  • Altogether, Pistol Whip is likely to be the PlayStation VR game of the year. It’s simple concept works incredibly well and has few faults. If you’ve ever wanted to be John Wick, or any other badass gun-wielding gangster for that matter, this is the game for you. Modifiers and multiple difficulties extend the life of the game even further, although this may not be enough for some.

  • Pistol Whip is a transcendent experience. This brilliant rails shooter has the trappings of a rhythm game which helps to make an already sublime experience stand out that much further. With a vibrant world and a variety of tracks to test your mettle with, the game offers a solid package right out of the gate. And that’s to say nothing of the upcoming content that will further expand what Pistol Whip has to offer.

  • Pistol Whip is entertaining and another of the growing list of successful arguments for VR as a near-staple for gamers. As a music game, it doesn’t have the depth or addictive appeal of Beat Saber. It can be fun and is one of the better action/arcade games in the VR space, but given its limited playlist and mechanics, I suspect it doesn’t have the long-term appeal of other, more fully-featured games.

  • The point of the game is to feel like techno-fantasy gun action and it succeeds incredibly well at that, with the pumping soundtrack driving the action in a way that’s impossible to resist. The rhythm and shooting fuse together to the point where you can feel when a shot is off, and that just because it hit doesn’t mean it was good. Pistol Whip is a music/action VR shooter built from recognizable elements that combine into a unique whole, and when it all comes together as planned it leaves the player feeling like an invincible gun-god dancing through the bullets.

Pistol Whip deserves to be discussed alongside Beat Saber, which I think is still virtual reality’s best and most fun ambassador. The two are both rhythm games that engross you in the music as you fight your way through a series of moving obstacles. Though I felt similar thrills the first time I played both, Pistol Whip’s gunplay manages to feel mechanically unique, and I am excited to push my high score and master the harder difficulties – even if it means having a sore neck.

  • An immensely enjoyable soundtrack that directly feeds into the core gameplay loop and some wonderfully vibrant visuals all add together with addictive gameplay to make this a fantastic experience. For a great workout it's perfect but with the modifiers allowing more relaxed gameplay, it also can appeal to those who just want some escapism.
