  • Really, Peggle 2 currently stands as my favorite Xbox One title. Over the past few days, I've met picked a few rounds of my favorite maps and a decent cup of tea as an excellent pick-me-up. Peggle 2 is something rare and special. ...If you've already played any of the previous Peggles, you already know how fantastic 2 is. It's not quite a system-seller, but it's the closest any casual game will ever get to making people want to drop $500. Simple as that.

In the first game, this dopamine rush helped you overlook the rather obvious role played by lady luck. ...Peggle 2, then, is still Peggle, but there’s little to justify the seven-year wait or its spot in Xbox One’s launch window. And while it may not ask you to shell out 69p for turns, it’s seemingly only a matter of time before you’re invited to pay for modes and Masters that in the past would have been part of the package from day one.

Peggle 2 is a great follow-up to the addiction we all have. I am happy to once again play in short bursts, especially on Xbox One where I can do it while other games are downloading or installing. It isn’t going to set the world on fire, or change the series. It is Peggle, and if you want more Peggle, you will get exactly that here. For the price it is impossible to complain. Plus you just feel all warm and fuzzy while playing it.

  • While it’s basically more of the same with a different twist thanks to the use of different power-up masters than before, it never wears out its welcome. Newcomers to the series should first check out the original or one of its variants — like the free Peggle Extreme on Steam — to make sure the gameplay is for them. No matter the audience, however, Peggle 2 offers up a lot of value in part due to it lacking microtransactions, but mostly because it sticks to a formula that’s very fun and replayable.

  • Better yet, Peggle 2 provides an excellent chaser for Xbox One’s more hardcore experiences. If it weren't for PopCap's first Xbox One downloadable, I'd say Microsoft can’t keep their digital shopfront together in the console transition leaving the glory days of Xbox Live Arcade behind the brand. Hopefully PopCap will have more for Microsoft soon. For fans who aren’t also Xbox and Halo fans, I can’t recommend Peggle 2 no matter how smartly it farts the franchise forward.

  • Peggle 2 is surprisingly void of a free-to-play framework, although a shop is listed as “coming soon.” It’s one of those games that you can just pick up, play, and have immediate fun with. Yes, it plays out more like a level pack than a true sequel, but that’s okay with me. As long as this formula remains entertaining, I wouldn’t mind more of it.

  • Note that Peggle 2 is still a casual game at the end of the day. There’s a lot of randomness that factors into each stage, and this can frustrate gamers that are looking for a more traditional test of skill. ...Granted, Peggle 2 is probably a better fit for iOS or Andorid devices, but even home console gamers need to just zone out to a simple puzzle game while Ode to Joy blares in the background.

I’ve already lost a lot of sleep to Peggle 2. Its Siren song of “just one more board” is difficult to ignore even late at night, and during the day anyone who walks by and sees it wants me to pass the controller to take a crack at besting my score. Peggle 2 is one-button joy. ...That it’s such a joyful sequel to an all-time classic stretches my grin from ear to ear, just like most of the rest of Peggle 2.

  • Indeed, it's that shameless pursuit of making Peggle 2 as fun and as accessible as humanly possible--no matter how cheesy the cost--that I absolutely adore. ...Peggle 2's randomness simply isn't an issue once you're locked into the Peggle groove. It's heaps of fun, totally absorbing, and such a wonderful place to be.

  • The improved production value is evident, with adorably animated masters and their ridiculously exuberant final score celebrations stealing the show. ...Despite that, Peggle 2 remains a foregone conclusion for existing Pegglers and puzzle fans alike, even if it doesn't quite live up to the addiction that destroyed everyone's work ethic back in 2007.
