- Payday 3 has seen its player base nosedive over the past couple of weeks, to the point where Payday 2’s player base was ten times larger at one point. Even the discounted price of $40 is a tough ask for a game with inconsistent servers that not many people are playing on anyway.
Paul Broussard · Oct 28, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - To make matters worse the game didn’t work for like a week after its launch due to its reliance on an always online model. Server issues plagued users on all systems, some people weren’t able to redeem their items that they had paid extra for, it was just a mess. Oddly enough, I was able to play before launch which means I didn’t get to play with real people as I gave up trying to play the game after day 3 of it not working.
Terrence Johnson · Oct 17, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - If you didn’t catch the Payday bug with the first two releases it’s unlikely you’ll feel the bite with Payday 3, with so much of the game relying on what worked last time around. But if you are a curious first-timer, then Payday 3 is worth at least checking out. Thankfully the game’s launch matchmaking kinks have been ironed out, because Payday’s core cooperative chaos is still a damn fun time with the right squad.
Zach Jackson · Oct 16, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - When Payday 3 is clicking on all cylinders, it’s a proper upgrade to the previous game and you won’t care about the grind, but rather the fun that is had on each mission.
Cory Wells · Oct 16, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - PAYDAY 3 isn’t the seismic improvement over PAYDAY 2 many might have been hoping for, but it is a refinement of the formula with a few fun new additions. Though the number of heists is currently at a modest number, they have a decent amount of replayability whether you use meticulous stealth or go in guns blazing.
Jonathan Trussler · Oct 11, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - After a decade away, it’s disappointing that Payday 3 feels so insubstantial and unwilling to evolve from its excellent predecessor. The heist variety and enemy types are cool, but the predictably rote objective-following and the continuing practise of shooting bullets into police is tiresome and without change-ups to make them entertaining.
James Davie · Oct 09, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Payday 3 gets most of the important stuff right: the heists offer a nice variety and encourage players to experiment with different systems and mechanics. Customization is deep and will keep players on the hook for dozens and dozens of hours. But it’s hard to overstate the blunder that is the online foundation that this game was built on. It makes Payday 3 needlessly frustrating and was the cause of one of the most severe online game outages I’ve seen in a long time.
Donovan Erskine · Oct 03, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The moment-to-moment gameplay in Payday 3 is a vast improvement to its decade-old predecessor, providing addicting gameplay. The overdone streamlining in all other areas makes for a weaker experience though. Even if we should expect changes and new things, it’s hard not to scratch your head at some decisions here.
Samuel Moreno · Oct 02, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Starbreeze's newest title in the co-op heist shooter series should have been a slam dunk, but falls short in several ways.
Ravi Sinha · Sep 29, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Payday 3 is a huge step up from the core mechanics of the Payday franchise. The updated gunplay and casing mechanics all come together for a gameplay experience that, as a whole, just feels better. However, it falters at just about everything else. The game is really light on content, progression has been ruined, and the rampant server issues are unacceptable, with the game refusing to work properly even if you want to play by yourself.
