  • A squirrel with a rifle is the least interesting thing about Palworld.

  • Palworld 1.0 is crammed with new content. More Pals, better quests, and a fully realized world for new and returning players to explore.

  • AMAZING Palworld is a fantastic game, and its journey from Early Access to 1.0 deserves to be studied. Pocketpair has maintained a steady stream of meaningful updates while consistently taking player feedback into account.

  • For an indie game that was made on such a modest budget, Palworld is incredibly impressive. It’s expansive and features an addicting gameplay loop that keeps you coming back over and over. This combined with the adorable Pals and compelling exploration goes a long way to explain why it has been so successful. Even so, it’s hard to overlook the frustrating AI and lackluster combat. Given how centric combat is to the gameplay this is a big problem and means Palworld falls short of being something truly special. Despite this, Palworld is still a lot of fun at its best and that fun comes at an extremely reasonable price.

Everything that Palworld lacks in originality, it makes up for with impressive execution. The combination of survival genre elements with creature catching is hugely captivating, resulting in a serotonin-gobbling gameplay loop. Despite the modest size of the team creating it, Palworld’s litany of systems mesh perfectly together, defying its indie origins.

  • I enjoy Palworld to this point. Sure, it isn’t the perfect game, but for an indie title, I’m impressed at the sheer amount of gameplay it offers. It is important to note that at this time, Palworld is in VERY early access. Pocketpair has stated that we won’t see a full 1.0 release until at least next year. The roadmap already has PvP, group raid, and Xbox and PC crossplay, so there is much to look forward to.

  • Overall, Palworld is an enigma. The game is full of glaring inconsistencies that are hard to ignore; nothing in the game feels cohesive; it just feels tacked on to each other. If the game is meant to compete with Pokémon, then it has a chance with some of the Pals designs, but it has nothing that makes Pokémon and monster-catching games so special. Your Pals aren't friends; they aren't there to help you grow and become stronger. They are there to be used and exploited, and that's not what makes the monster-catching genre special.

  • The version of Palworld on Xbox and the Microsoft Store might not be nearly as polished as the Steam version, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still a ton of fun. Performance is obviously worse, the audio issues are glaring, you won’t be able to nickname your beloved Pals, and you’re limited to a much smaller group of friends. All of that adds up to an experience that is indisputably worse, but I was at least able to look past the vast majority of these bumps in the road with relative ease, because underneath it all is the same awesome survival game that I haven’t been able to put down. Given time, I fully expect the Xbox-specific issues to get cleaned up as this Early Access dark horse continues to evolve – until then, Xbox players still have a solid game on their hands.

  • Palworld is a game of bare minimums, unscrupulous and soulless, designed by the numbers to hit all the right notes to keep you hooked on its addictive catch-grind-craft loop.

About the game

Palworld is a multiplayer open-world survival game that combines creature-collecting with crafting, base-building, and combat. Set on the Palpagos Islands, players capture and tame animal-like creatures called Pals, which can be used as mounts, combat partners, or workers at player-built bases. The game incorporates firearms and darker satirical elements into the monster-taming formula.
