Owlboy is a wonderful adventure that hits the right notes. Dropping in at the sweet spot of ten hours this game delivers on almost everything it sets up. The mechanics feel fantastic, the bosses are genuinely fun to take down, and the characters are wonderfully fleshed out. This is one game that borrows from other genres and does it right. It is hard to stand out in a sea of me-too games, but Owlboy manages to do it in spades.

  • Owlboy sets a new standard. It’s a gorgeously crafted adventure that’s jam packed with detail, endearing characters and a memorable heart warming story. Rarely do we see platformers donning such care and attention to detail, further upheld by fluid well rounded gameplay that doesn’t let go once it captivates you. Owlboy is a must have.

  • I will never be mistaken for a retro-gamer. But D-Pad Studio has developed a breathtaking, lush world that is a beautiful homage to old-school games. The cast is rich, its mechanical story quickly twisting to become something much deeper, and it walks a very careful balance of fun charm and dark events. Unfortunately at launch, Owlboy was PC only. Thankfully having already brought it to Switch in February of this year, and now doing so for PlayStation and Xbox, it seems that specific failure was just the beginning of his adventure. Not the end.

  • By providing a solid story full of exciting characters and fortifying it with thrilling boss battles and elaborate environments the quality of the game can easily surpass big budget triple-a games. Owlboy is a marvelous action-adventure that successfully combines gameplay and story for one memorable adventure that’s worth playing multiple times.

  • Owlboy is a must-play platformer for fans of the genre and of gaming’s history in general. It’s also a truly wonderful revelation on the PS4, feeling right at home on the console in a way that made me briefly forget at times that the game was a port. Come for the charming art or the offer of some quick hits of nostalgia, but stay for the sublime storytelling and fluid gameplay.

  • All told, Owlboy is a delightful game full to bursting with character. Otus’ bittersweet tale is engrossing, the supporting cast is consistently charming, and there’s an admirable level of polish across the board. From its stunning visuals and soundtrack to its fun, responsive gameplay,

  • Impeccable dungeon design; Varied gameplay that always manages to stay fresh; A mix of puzzles, exploration and combat make for engaging moment-to-moment gameplay; Set piece moments such as chase sequences and stealth sections are amazing; Brilliant boss fights; A very well told and engrossing story with a great cast of characters; Beautiful and incredibly detailed visuals and art style.

  • I had an awesome time with Owlboy. The game possesses a great story that may bring tears to your eyes, but it will also bring you happiness as this little Owl soars thru the sky with his loyal friends. If you have a taste for retro-styled music, you’ll definitely get a kick out of the soundtrack, and will find yourself residing in the same area because you love hearing a particular song.

  • In short, Owlboy is plainly superb. As it was in 2016, D-Pad Studios has crafted an excellent adventure that should be played by all. If you’ve already experienced Owlboy on another platform, there’s nothing here you haven’t yet seen. But if, like me, you never did play it before – now is the perfect time to experience one of the best indie adventures in modern memory.

  • When that patch comes, Owlboy is absolutely worth checking out, even if just for the pretty artwork and enjoyable story. Fortunately on top of that, the gameplay is also sound, delivering a nice puzzle platforming experience with a wealth of variety and distinctive elements. That being said, the Switch version is rough around the edges right now. It’s still possible to play through and enjoy, but it might be worth holding out for the patch
