- Outcast: A New Beginning is a weird game. On one hand it looks and feels great at times, while other times it feels a little janky. Still there is a lot to love here, even with all the talking. Seriously can we wrap it up? If you have nostalgia for the original, this is a no-brainer, for new fans I think it is worth checking out. It feels like a game we don’t often get anymore, and it is just fun to play when it is clicking. Recommend keeping your eye on this one, just maybe not at full price.
Ken McKown · Apr 04, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Wrapping up, how much you enjoy Outcast – A New Beginning will depend on your tolerance for a traditional open-world game that can feel a decade behind the curve. I enjoyed it most during the first dozen or so hours (of about 25 if you just focus on the main quest tasks) as the jet pack allowed me to tear around Adelpha and stay mobile during firefights. The problem is it does too little to differentiate itself in the long run - with only a handful of scripted mission sequences that don’t boil down to busywork followed by a cutscene – and it never comes close to feeling like a classic PC sandbox either. On the upside, Outcast – A New Beginning also never felt like it was wasting my time by pretending to be more than it is.
Andrew Logue · Mar 28, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - With movement and combat upgrades, Outcast – A New Beginning eventually comes close to being a decent open-world shooter, but terrible fetch quests, bland activities, tech issues, and narrative gaffes mean that the colorful world of Adelpha does not bear enough fruit.
Ben Thomas · Mar 24, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Outcast: A New Beginning impresses with its vibrant, immersive environments and straightforward gameplay, offering an engaging shooter experience without overwhelming players with complex tutorials. However, it's held back by technical issues with performance as well as distorted voice audio, stiff character animations, and a soundtrack that occasionally feels out of place. Despite these drawbacks, the game's solid mechanics and captivating world-building make it a worthwhile journey for those seeking a fun, albeit flawed, action-adventure.
Dan · Mar 22, 2024 Reviewed on PC, PS5, Series X|SRead full review - Outcast – A New Beginning presents an exciting adventure into the planet of Adelpha. While the innovative combat and environmental interactions are fun, the game is too similar to other open-world RPGs to truly stand out. Exploring Adelpha in its entirety is also challenging because several bugs hamper your progress, sometimes even crashing your game. The game may not break the barrier into greatness, but you can still easily have a good time if you look past the flaws.
Victor Tan · Mar 15, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Outcast - A New Beginning doesn't feel like a modern game and that's actually its primary appeal so if you have fond memories of 15 year old action adventure games then you'll love what's in store for you in this open-ended planet-exploring journey.
A.J. Maciejewski · Mar 15, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - While there are things that work in its favor, Outcast: A New Beginning ultimately feels like any other open-world game you could play this year or have played years ago. It retains the charm of the original and further explores the world of the Talan in unique and odd ways, but how you go about doing that doesn’t feel as revolutionary as it did back in 1999.
Giancarlo Saldana · Mar 15, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There's an undeniable charm to Outcast: A New Beginning, and twenty years ago this could have been the breakout hit for an ongoing Outcast franchise, but in 2024 players are spoilt for choice in the realm of third-person action-adventure games. If you're a fan of the AA, mid-tier shooters we used to get back in the day then this might be worth a look, but otherwise, there's just not enough here to warrant your attention.
John Cal McCormick · Mar 14, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Outcast - A New Beginning unfortunately lacks many aspects needed to revitalize this cult classic for the modern day. With an archaic gameplay loop and middling action, it’s not quite the follow-up to a revolutionary experience that fans may way. Although some may enjoy a return to Adelpha, and there’s quality to be found in exploration, this is an open world game that fails to hit the mark.
Rob Gordon · Mar 14, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Outcast: A New Beginning does offer a good amount of fun for those looking to mess around in an open-world sci-fi game that hearkens back to earlier entries in the genre. The world that Appeal created is fun to explore, the core gameplay loop feels like a blast from the past, and overall, it makes for a decent sci-fi experience. The story may not be the most interesting, and the content isn't that varied, but some players may still be able to find something to enjoy here. And fans of the original should at least enjoy this trip down memory lane, even if it could have been done better.
