  • Ooblets had enormous potential, but the sheer amount of grinding and shallow mechanics really disappointed me. Unless you don't mind dull and repetitive gameplay loops, I don't recommend trying it.

  • It oozes style with its quirky pastel art direction, quippy writing, and delightful color palettes. With dance battles as a staple, it obviously necessitates the freshest of beats by Pedro Silva, from chill vibes to kitschy elevator muzak (and more than a few bops!)

  • Overall, Ooblets absolutely met the expectations I had built up for it over those six long years of waiting. If you love the farming/community sim genre, it’s an absolute must-play, and I think it’ll be a game that sticks around for years to come.

  • Overall, Ooblets is a fun game. You’re meant to take your time with it, but it can sometimes be frustrating. I think they overcompensated in their effort to stand out from other farming sim games and provided too many things to do.

  • Ooblets is a must-play for life-simulation fans and is a great gateway game for folks who enjoy a good deck builder and have wanted to dabble in the life-simulation genre thanks to the dance battle system.

  • Ooblets offers a smile-inducing amalgamation of monster collecting, farming simulation, and relationship building. However, this delightful chill pill becomes tougher to swallow thanks to a tedious, grind-heavy progression that tests your patience in less enjoyable ways.

  • It’s still a bit rough around the edges, but Ooblets is a quirky combination of monster collecting RPG and farming sim. The humor and characters are incredibly charming, and the core gameplay loop is a ton of fun. For every annoying dungeon, there’s some cute Ooblets to battle and collect just around the corner. What Ooblets lacks in polish, it makes up for in charm.

  • Despite an extended stay in Game Preview, Ooblets' 1.0 launch has been plagued with glitches. Still, the charmingly quirky game developed by a small indie studio is hard not to love.

  • A lot of the frustrations with having to stop the gameplay loop and spend the next five minutes saving and turning the game on and off again can completely defeat what I imagined many are going to be going to this game for.

Everything in Ooblets is downright adorable, from the cheeky dialogue to the unique dance battles to the well-designed creatures themselves. That charm was enough to draw me in from the get go and keep a gleeful smile on my face for most of the 30-hour story. But while I could easily see myself going back to improve my farm, home, and Ooblets collection a while longer, the actual mechanics behind those tasks don’t have much to dig into past their skin-deep sense of style. That means Ooblets is an amusing farm battler, just not a very exciting one.
