- No Straight Roads is a game with beautiful visual and musical design, filled with side-tickling humor and banter, spectacular battles but with a pretty average gameplay overall.
Taoshi · Nov 22, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - No Straight Roads Encore Edition is the same exceptional game with several quality-of-life improvements. It is much more accessible than the original but offers the same challenging options for those who seek it. Mayday and Zuke are exceptional characters and the overall narrative, while light-hearted most of the time still touches on difficult subjects like family, loneliness, and responsibility. If you've yet to experience No Straight Roads then the Encore Edition is a must-play.
Grayshadow · Oct 27, 2021 Reviewed onRead full review - No Straight Roads is a big and colorful musical experience with heavy JRPG influences that lets you fight the man, give power to the people of Vinyl City and bring joy, all with the sweet power of rock and roll.
Dev Crowley · Nov 21, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - No Straight Roads often has a frustrating difficulty that stems more from developer choices and less from player skill, making for flawed fun. This rhythm brawler is best played as an in-sync duo or trio. But a slicker, more stylish toe-tapping passion product, you’re not likely to find. I hope to see more of Bunk Bed Junction.
Trevor Gould · Oct 25, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - If it wasn’t for its clunky combat and controls, as well as its tendency to bite way more than it can actually chew, No Straight Roads would have been one of the best surprises of the year. As it stands, even with its lack of polish, I still had a blast with it. It’s way too damn adorable and cheerful for me to ignore.
Leo Faria · Sep 17, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I can’t lie — I’ve absolutely fallen in love with No Straight Roads for what it does offer, which is an explosively intense experience that will punch your teeth right out of your face. If you favor adventure over rhythm, there’s no reason not to pick up No Straight Roads; if beats are more important than battles to you, perhaps wait for tickets to go on sale.
Heather Johnson Yu · Sep 04, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - No Strange Roads presents something of an oddity – like a contradictory A-side and B-side. On the A-side you have a superb visual feast to experience, characterised by superb characters and bosses, coupled together with a solid soundtrack and a compelling yet simple premise that makes you want to ascend to the top of the music mountain.
James Davie · Sep 03, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The boss battles themselves are of varying quality too, and are laden with frustration. With a patch or two No Straight Roads could be a decent game, but as it stands it’s impossible to recommend to even those who are really into music-infused adventures.
Richard Seagrave · Sep 02, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - No Straight Roads feels like a fresh new song that crops up in a radio’s playlist that’s usually full of commercial crud. It may be a one-hit-wonder but the game fully deserves its platinum disc and five-star review. To quote Bunk Bed Junction’s catchphrase, bunka, junka, shakalaka!
Jukka Piira · Sep 02, 2020 Reviewed on PS4 - It's flawed, but in an interesting way, and that's valuable. This isn't some market-tested focus-grouped vanilla milkshake of a game that's aimed directly at the lowest common denominator or some indie project that blew up on the runway. Instead, No Straight Roads' chief problem is that it's so busy being an animated cyberpunk comedy/rock opera that it's not a particularly satisfying video game, and that's actually fascinating.
