- Rarely Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 tries its hand at being a platformer. This doesn't really succeed with the best results due to the game's combat focused stiff camera. These sections are playable, but far from enjoyable, as frustration often sets in. With both Bayonetta and God Of War III not launching until 2010, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is by far the best brawler available on Playstation 3 this year.

But thanks to its heady new co-op missions, it comes awfully close. Forget any worries you had about diminished blood and embrace the fury that the game's comely trio brings to the table. Taking control of one of them while slashing up fiends with a friend is a total riot, as is guiding them through their single-player levels.
Kevin VanOrd · Sep 30, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - While the dried pools of blood may disappoint some, Sigma 2 features many gameplay improvements. The bow and arrow has unlimited ammo so you no longer have to collect arrows, plus the streamlined controls make shooting way more appealing. Sigma 2 is a longer, more action-packed edition of Ninja Gaiden II, and if you’ve never played the original you won’t notice the missing gore.
Bryan Vore · Sep 30, 2009 Reviewed on PS3 - Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is worth checking out for PS3 owners who like hardcore action games and have never played the Xbox 360 version. The new additions, however, simply aren't worth replaying the game for if you have the original version, and the removal of the blood has done the game a significant disservice. If you only have a 360 and were worried that Tecmo was gypping you, don't worry. You've not really missed out on anything important.
Jim Sterling · Sep 30, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Everything from enemy placement, frequency, and AI to the effectiveness of each weapon has been massaged to a point where the average player will be able to complete it without losing their mind. The toned-down violence also ensures that it's palatable to a wider audience. It's a drastic change of philosophy for Team Ninja and a smart one. Toss in the extra modes, characters, and chapters, and you have the definitive version of the game. If you've been scared off by this series in the past, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a great reason to unsheathe your sword once again.
Game Trailers · Sep 29, 2009 Reviewed on PS3 - Minor complaints aside, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is an immensely satisfying action game. If you enjoy a good challenge it offers plenty of content to keep you happy. Beating the game will take a few days, but mastering the escalating difficulty levels could take weeks, or in my case, many months of enjoyable practice.
David Clayman · Sep 22, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Whether it's for simply beating a wave of blood-thirsty bats or for finally slaying a boss you've been tearing your hair out over for more than an hour, the sense of reward and gratification is practically unrivalled. For every level you beat you feel like you're becoming a better gamer and that's a feeling that very few games can claim to give. This is action gaming at its very best, although with the toned down carnage during combat there's a nagging sense that Sigma 2's not quite the ultimate edition of the game it could have been.
Tom Orry · Sep 18, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Overall, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a very enjoyable experience. It is very fast-paced with more than enough challenge to keep players busy for sometime. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a great example of what a great game can be by having both excellent gameplay with top-notch graphics. A feet that not a lot of developers can seem to accomplish now a days. Unless you do not like hack-and-slash gameplay, there is no reason to not pick this up.
VGChartz Staff · Oct 13, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - In the end, then, despite the toning down, despite the wonky camera, and despite the fact that at times it's all just a remix, all that's left is the controller in your hand at three in the morning. You'll be late for work tomorrow, but as the cherry blossom fills the air, and six new enemies drop into view and, behind them, you spy the familiar blue glow of your next save point, none of that really matters.
