Despite my complaints, it’s clear that the remake is most definitely the best way to experience what Nier has to offer. The improved visuals, performance and additional content are all much appreciated, and while it’s still a title with notable flaws, it’s infinitely easier to recommend to all who are willing to put in the time and effort to embark on a journey they’ll not soon forget.

  • Nier Replicant will fool many into thinking it’s a sub-par JRPG worth a few hours of attention, and it will be dropped by just as many before showing its cards. It’s a flaw, to be certain — even though the first half is used for setup to a grander tale, I still believe it could be done much more elegantly. Even so, the reveals and myriad alterations that occur as the story unfolds more than make up for these early hours.

  • Replicant is a beautiful game where the end is never just the end, but another chance to begin anew and to experience this remastered version, as vibrant as never before. Sure, there will be moments where you will curse Yoko Taro for making you sad, and bored, and sad again; and yet you will find yourself humming the game’s music when doing chores around the house, or wondering what exactly happened to the Aerie that made it so… well, aerie.

  • For better of for worse, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is pretty much what it was so many years ago.  If you didn’t like the original release, then this won’t do much to convince you otherwise, and if you are coming from Automata, this is a weaker game in a lot of ways. NieR demands patience from its players and rewards it with a phenomenal story. With this cult classic making a return maybe Drakengard could see the same treatment?

  • NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139… is a pitch-perfect update to one of the greatest stories ever told in the medium. Combat feels fast and fluid, much like players’ tears once they finish the game. The new content feels natural, magic is more useful than ever, and the reprised music and voice-over bring the world to life.

  • The NieR Replicant remake is an excellent action RPG with one of the best game stories ever and updated combat, but it's not without a few problems.

  • To sum it all up, this is by far the best version you will get of the 2010 classic, and if you are a fan of Automata and wish to see how it started, this is a must buy and I thoroughly recommend a full playthrough. For those dipping their toes into the series, I would say give the first playthrough a shot and see if it grabs you, as it still has enough enjoyable factors without subsequent playthroughs to be a great JRPG on its own right, kinks and all.

  • Overall, Nier Replicant is an excellent game that brings the fantastic world of Nier to the masses. The original game was a cult classic hidden gem and hopefully now that it’s far more accessible to far more gamers, it’ll achieve the success status it rightfully deserves. The quality of life improvements Square Enix have brought to the table in this game are great and even featuring an “Auto-battle” option to help gamers who want to just experience the story is a nice touch.

  • As a remake, Nier Replicant greatly succeeds in its execution. The visuals are infinitely better than the original’s, the combat feels a whole lot smoother & snappier, and the music & voice acting are both still amazing. The provocative themes you’ll be forced to confront, varied gameplay styles, and deeply moving story have all been kept intact, thankfully.

  • Nier Replicant is very much a game that’s not for everybody. It revels in tedium and has more fetch quests than you can charge a boar at, but it makes up for its deficits with a compelling narrative and unique design elements. Game design may have moved on some compared to where the game resides, but it’s still very much worth playing, for old fans and newcomers alike.
