- Neon White from developer Angel Matrix and publisher Annapurna Interactive is a unique and fluid speed-running shooter that uses gameplay elements methodically to create a game filled with strategy and fun.
Nathaniel Stevens · Jul 11, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Neon White features incredible gameplay and some of the best “one more try” levels in recent memory. It’s so fun to play that it can’t be brought down by its poor story. It is worth a purchase or Game Pass download, especially if you’ve got some friends to compete with on the leaderboards
Jesse Norris · Jul 11, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Neon White is a welcome addition to the Xbox Game Pass library, serving up a unique and exhilarating indie experience. Its gameplay has a great sense of flow and it does a fantastic job depicting the afterlife. The game does have slower moments in-between levels, but it's primarily about speedrunning and perfecting your runs. As long as you can keep up, Heaven awaits.
Liam Doolan · Jul 11, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - I’m a big fan of the artistic style in Neon White though. It looks great with an anime inspired cast delivering an adult tone visually and through dialogue. At first glance I’ll admit, I got Neon White totally wrong. It looked intriguing but ultimately confused, however in reality the components all add up to a satisfying, demon popping ride. Neon White feels like a breath of fresh air, thanks to its brilliant design and wickedly paced gameplay. For thrills, spills and occasionally chills, this one should not be missed.
Darren Edwards · Jul 10, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - A fast and frenetic slice of heaven, Neon White is a sublime combination of tasty gunplay, twitch platforming, and speed-running that's unlike little else.
Richard Walker · Jul 10, 2024 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The only major gripe we have is the severe screen-tearing. It's present throughout, and an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise very sleek game. VRR or a 120Hz-compatible display may solve this, but without those options, it's a slightly distracting technical hiccup. However, you're unlikely to notice in the midst of things, and Neon White is otherwise a highly entertaining, stylishly presented adventure.
Stephen Tailby · Dec 12, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - While the story never fully grabbed me, Neon White is an absolute joy to play, keeping me hooked and repeatedly making me ask myself if I had one more run in me. Even if you’re not the sort of player who usually gets into chasing high scores and leaderboards, Neon White might surprise you.
Andrew Thornton · Jul 08, 2022 Reviewed on PC, Series X|SRead full review - Neon White is a quick and compulsive first-person platformer that’s surprisingly simple to understand and play, but packs a very stern speedrunning challenge at its core. Tying your combat options to your traversal mechanics, Neon White makes every encounter a deadly parkour puzzle that can be replayed over and over, in search of the perfect run and the tightest time. The dialogue between its unlikeable troupe of angst-ridden, anime-inspired assassins may be a hokey misstep, but its airtight level design and fantastic sense of momentum ensure Neon White’s gameplay is something to celebrate.
Luke Reilly · Jul 05, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The soundtrack is a chilled-out version of their typical hardcore breaks style, with some sparse vocal sampling that really brings the hype when you’re in the flow state. The music fits and elevates the gameplay not usually seen in flow games like this, and reminds me of how enhanced a game like Jet Set Radio is by its soundtrack. It’s excellent stuff.
David Morgan · Jul 01, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Neon White is flawless from a gameplay perspective and is not only stylish and incredibly satisfying, but a magnetic execution of a fascinating idea. There's nothing else quite like it, and you'd be doing yourself a massive disservice if you don't at least give it a try.
