Critic Reviews
- Despite the persistent pressure to spend on microtransactions, NBA 2K25 shows the long-reigning dynasty might still have some gas left in the tank. Each mode delivers a different experience, truly delivering a targeted mode for nearly every basketball fan. Though some modes are bogged down and bloated, once the team steps on the court, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone that does it better.
Brian Shea · Mar 24, 2025 Reviewed on Series X|S - If you can put aside microtransactions playing a significant role in MyCareer, MyTeam, and a few other minor grievances, 2K25 is an excellent purchase for any basketball fan. Every new shooting and dribbling mechanic perfectly serves their role and helps create an authentic experience. This is the closest I have felt to stepping into the shoes of my favorite NBA superstars, and the gameplay alone is enough to leave you wanting more.
Ryan Lemay · Nov 14, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - If you straight up ignore the microtransactions, and hold your gag reflex when it comes to the cringeworthy amounts of product placement, NBA 2K25 can still be highly enjoyed. It’s still a super solid basketball simulator at the end of the day. Whether or not you think this game is worth its stupendously expensive pricetage, however, is up to you.
Leo Faria · Oct 18, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - NBA 2K25 still carries a lot of the standards for how sports games should reflect and celebrate their sport of choice. I just wish it didn't have this odd economic quandary hanging over it. If it were to somehow address that problem and leave it on the cutting room floor, we'd really be onto something.
Redmond Carolipio · Oct 09, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - By daring to downscale some of the fluff, NBA 2K25 brings its focus back to basketball in a positive way. Improvements to the series’ dribbling system and ProPLAY make this the best feeling hoops sim Visual Concepts has made, while the sheer density of different modes and features means you could play nothing else all year – and still never get bored. But the borderline insulting emphasis on microtransactions remain a thorn in this series’ side, and something you simply have to accept if you want to enjoy everything else on offer here.
Sammy Barker · Oct 08, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - NBA 2K25 takes everything from its predecessors and takes a step into greatness. With astonishing visuals, incredible immersion and tons to be getting on with, NBA 2K25 feels like the most complete iteration of basketball thus far. The microtransactions continue to bring down the entire experience, and there's a sense that it feels more like a casino than ever before, but if you have the strength to avoid them, you'll have one hell of a time.
Ross Keniston · Oct 01, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - This is about as close to a slam dunk the series has been in recent years. NBA 2K25 delivers on the court where it counts, while bringing meaningful changes to the staple MyCareer and MyTeam modes, in particular. MyNBA Eras remains a major highlight, too, sure to please ardent NBA fans and nostalgics alike.

Richard Walker · Sep 30, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - Let it be known – I am not an NBA 2K specialist. I am not an avid follower of the NBA and all its trials and tribulations. If you want a detailed review from someone in that category, then look elsewhere. But I am a gamer, and NBA 2K25 seems to have improved in terms of the gameplay and the modes from those of previous. The presentation, gameplay, and sheer number options on offer make NBA 2K25 an amazing package; a brilliant sports game. Yes, the ghost of the microtransactions is still haunting the place, but close your eyes and ignore it, and you will have a great time. So NBA 2K25, thanks for having me back.
Gareth Brierley · Sep 29, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Micro-transactions aside, NBA 2K25 is one of the best sports games to date. With its variety of game modes and stunning realism, it offers more than its predecessors. This game is a true delight for basketball fans, and if you're willing to overlook a couple of flaws, you're almost guaranteed to get hooked.
