  • Overall, NBA 2K20 is still one of the best basketball games out there, but future iterations should either ease up greatly on the VC spend or drop the price significantly, so players won't have to spend extra money.

  • Even when you’re being bombarded at every turn to buy additional content or currency for the game, 2K’s series is still the reigning champion of basketball simulation games. You’ll once again get an improved version with better graphics, more realistic controls, a plethora of different game modes and a nice soundtrack to blend it all together. We hope to see the next iteration tone down the microtransactions, but even if they don’t, you probably won’t find a better sim for basketball enthusiasts out there.

  • From presentation to gameplay, NBA 2K20 does an amazing job at faithfully recreating an authentic basketball experience. If you can look past the microtransactions, you’ll find a really great basketball simulation.

  • Overall, NBA 2K20 is a good game. The core gameplay and presentation excels, My Career is a simple but enjoyable experience, the WNBA’s included, and the additional modes function but fall short because of the progression stranglehold.

  • If you’re a huge basketball fan then of course you’re going to want to buy NBA 2K20, warts and all. But you should probably ask yourself, “do you need to?”. If you just want to play basketball, NBA 2K19 does the job nearly almost as well – and you can pick that up for peanuts if you don’t already own it. NBA 2K20‘s MyCareer is a huge disappointment, and other modes have had minor improvements at best. All you’re really paying for is roster updates, WNBA and the opportunity to buy more VC. If that sounds like a good deal to you then jump in, but it really shouldn’t.

  • NBA 2K20 feels like a transition game for 2K. The full package still offers hours upon hours of basketball enjoyment to be had, but it doesn’t feel like any worthwhile improvements were made compared to 2K19. Plus, microtransactions are still present around nearly every corner, constantly beckoning you to just drop a few dollars into the game. I wish this would change, but I know it’s pretty much never going to at this point.

  • NBA 2K20 reminds me of the 2018 Golden State Warriors. A top-level talent that mops the floor with the competition, but is not without flaws. The presentation and gameplay of the franchise has never been better, and continually pushes the quality of the genre to new levels. There’s an overwhelming amount of content here that will keep fans of the series glued to the couch until next year’s release. However, it’s still plagued with technical issues, and the predatory microtransactions aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

  • The game does have its issues, but as of writing, a lot of the glitches I saw seem to have been addressed. My biggest gripe (and I know I’m not alone) is the amount of emphasis placed on VC each year, and how it feels even more off-putting this year. It takes away from what is such a beautiful and well-crafted game. But if you’re like me and don’t play the card game and don’t mind the grind, NBA 2K20 is still the best sports game on the market.

  • From a gameplay perspective, there’s no denying that NBA 2K20 reigns supreme as the best basketball game you’ll want to play this year. Sadly, 2K Games seems to be expanding its microtransaction plague throughout the experience to a point that it feels oppressive. Still if you’re able to wade through the muck and deal with the advertisements and pay-to-win modes, you won’t be disappointed by the stellar updates and excellent presentation you’ve come to expect.

  • The shame of all this is that without these practices, NBA 2K20 can stand tall as the best basketball sim available. Even running unopposed with the retirement of the NBA Live franchise, it continues to get better and better on the court, but serious issues surrounding that experience leave it feeling less and less impressive year on year. Here’s hoping 2K can end that trend.
