- While it creates an interesting mystery to solve through the course of its plot and provides some round, intriguing characters to follow through it, there’s just not a lot to do, and when the game throws crime-solving and clue-gathering at you in earnest, the experience almost always oscillates between dull and frustrating.
Phil Hornshaw · Jul 11, 2014 Reviewed on PC - I respect what Airtight tried to do in Soul Suspect and I think that with a little more refinement, some broader characters and a bit more of a fast paced story that the game would have been much more enjoyable. Unfortunately the repetitiveness and dragging narrative holds it down from being much more than a mediocre title at best. The story and acting holds up, even if it’s monotonous to plod through, so when you inevitably find this in your local bargain bin it’s still worth a play through.
Shawn Petraschuk · Jun 19, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - For all of Murdered: Soul Suspect’s shortcomings, there are some things it gets right. ...The few moments where Murderd: Soul Suspect actually makes good on its supernatural potential aren’t worth slogging through the rest of the game for. It’s trying to be a gripping murder mystery, but never really knows how to get there. This is one you should probably just leave for dead.
Ben Moore · Jun 18, 2014 Reviewed on PS4 - Less game and more interactive story, your enjoyment of Murdered: Soul Suspect will be directly proportional to how much you buy into the tale that it tells. Those looking for a title with engaging gameplay will be sorely disappointed by the lack of challenge, boring stealth, and hunt the clue investigations.
Alex Stinton · Jun 18, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Murdered: Soul Suspect lingers almost exactly at the quality middle point as a game. It doesn't do anything particularly good, nor does it do anything terribly bad; it's just okay. The ghost stories and premise of the title are what have pushed the needle up into the green but even these serve as a reminder of what could have been.
Josephine Johnson · Jun 12, 2014 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Players may have to go through a few ridiculously simple investigations to get to it, but the story is the star of the show and entertains throughout. Players looking for more of an adventure game with a good story who doesn’t mind a few simple things to get through to see that story should give Soul Suspect a try.
Drew Leachman · Jun 11, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Murdered basically has close to no replayability if you go through the game carefully from the beginning. Its side quests and collectibles, and even its main narrative, are stories you’ll go through once and not feel compelled to replay. But it is a smart game the first time round, mainly because it is set in Salem and actually uses the city’s history to its advantage.
Mary-Anne Lee · Jun 11, 2014 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1, PS3, X360Read full review - I really wanted to like Murdered: Soul Suspect, but -- like L.A. Noire -- it's a detective game that manages to gets its most essential quality absolutely wrong. The backdrop of Salem lends a lot to its central mystery, but at no point will Soul Suspect ever put your deductive skills to work. That's fine if you're indulging in an episode of CSI, but I like my thinky games to require more than just passive interest.
Bob Mackey · Jun 09, 2014 Reviewed on PC - Murdered: Soul Suspect is a really great idea for a game. It could have been really high quality all around, but maybe certain things were overlooked while focusing on the story rather than getting feedback about gameplay during development. This title feels like a tween game. It’s in between console generations, where it could have been a lot more but still had some good points.
Dyani Wood · Jun 08, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - To its credit, Murdered: Soul Suspect offers a pretty interesting story from the outset. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play as a ghost detective? Unfortunately, the gameplay seems more suited to a point-and-click adventure rather than a full-fledged, 3D world. And while the ghost powers were cool for a few minutes or so, the novelty wore off and it felt like a chore to possess people or poltergeist objects. If nothing else, the experience just made me want to play a straight-up adventure game.
