    The game is clearly a product of its time, and without nostalgia goggles, it’s difficult not to be underwhelmed by what it has to offer. The amount of additional content doesn’t make up for the game’s lack of QoL improvements. The shallow non-combat gameplay, poor visual performance, and cookie-cutter story don’t help this release either.

    All-in-all, it was a fun JRPG with an entertaining storyline. I also understand that this game is a remake of something that came out a decade ago. And, heck, this game even has every bit of DLC (of which there is a lot) that was released during its initial run included for free! Unfortunately, neither of those things can entirely make up for the game’s misgivings.

    A majority of the DLC is wildly unbalanced coins, points (for unlocking skills and grunts), and equipment that can and will hurl the difficulty out the window. If you just want to brutalize the entire story, go right ahead, but don’t be hasty if you can help it. Mugen Souls is a fun trek, and you might as well do it right if you’re that determined to assist this pink-haired demon in taking over the universe.

    Mugen Souls is finally complete in the West and available on Switch for fans to experience the mysterious bathhouse mini-game. Sadly, the messy nature of gameplay doesn’t hold up compared to modern releases. The entire experience feels like a blend of ideas, creating a haphazard experience for the player.

Mugen Souls features a free-roaming battle map, turn-based combat, and massive amounts of customization and growth to maximize the fun players can have with the game. Expansive worlds to explore: Travel freely on each world to explore and find treasures and items. Monsters are roaming about, so be cautious, or fight them head-on and make them your subservient peons! Free-roaming style battle maps: Use Combo attacks to execute spectacular moves with your allies! Destroy Crystals on the battlefield to activate Hyper mode!
