  • Moto Racer 4 is a prime example of a missed opportunity. The gameplay is enjoyable in small bursts, but it’s packaged in such a terrible way that it becomes hard to recommend even to longtime fans of the series. With some extra polish and a different structure it could’ve been a surprisingly fun throwback package, but in its current state it reeks of being rushed to release.

Moto Racer 4 tugged at my nostalgia from the original PlayStation games, but it left me feeling cold and empty afterwards. I wanted it to be good, heck I would have settled for it being mediocre, but in the end it just feels like a game lost in time.

  • It’s extremely limited game modes, online functionality that doesn’t have enough players to find a steady amount of races, fidgety controls and mediocre graphics, Moto Racer 4 isn’t the motorcycle game most people will be lining up at midnight to pick up at the game store, but its short-style races make it fun enough for a quick ‘pick-up-then-go’ game for someone trying to get in a race before work or school.

  • Even with fairly decent driving gameplay and a somewhat unique career progression system, Moto Racer 4 simply doesn’t do enough to wow veteran racing game fans or woo in newcomers who might be tempted to put pedal to the metal. Almost every aspect of the game prompted me to utter the phrase “just not good enough”; Moto Racer 4 simply feels unfinished, and despite its few decent elements, it’s just not enough to warrant a purchase.

  • If you have your heart set on a motorbike game for whatever reason, surely you can find something better than this. Despite some of the bugs, Moto Racer 4 is a competent game that just manages to be a disappointment, even when compared to mobile games. I’ve never been bored while playing a game involving high-speed motorcycles and bikers doing radical stunts, but I suppose there’s a first time for everything. Fans of the original games should steer clear of this game, as it will only disappoint you.

  • Overall, it looks nice, and sounds good too, but is let down primarily by the shoddy handling and long load times, with a seemingly inverse difficulty curve, it’s somewhat unforgiving to play meaning there’s not a great deal of fun left to be had. Decidedly average attempt at a reboot of the franchise, with controls that just aren’t fun and load times that sap what was left of any real enjoyment from the title.

  • With the help of a plentiful multiplayer option, and fun challenges, like the aforementioned slaloms, there is plenty on offer for those willing to take the plunge. It's a challenging romp that sets out with a single goal and definitely achieves it with a lot of gusto and its tongue firmly in its cheek.

  • Many will be unable to overlook its technical problems while others won’t make it past those horrendous first impressions, but for those who do make it, for those that learn to live with the ‘unique’ handling and budget presentation, Moto Racer 4 will likely prove an enjoyable and surprisingly addictive arcade racer.
