- MORDHAU exhibits flashes of brilliance, but the console port of this four year-old medieval multiplayer game is marred by combat that feels inelegant and dull on a controller.
Jason Dailey · Jul 14, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Mordhau is not for those who want a multiplayer experience thatâs easy to drop into and utterly destroy foes. However, the joy of mastering its challenging system as well as memorable moments of violent ballet make these engrossing battles unique.
Javy Gwaltney · Jun 28, 2019 Reviewed on PC - Mordhau is tough, violent, beautiful, and doesn't pull its punches. Despite an intense learning curve that could be better alleviated with more tutorials or better practice tools, its supreme swordplay and combat mechanics eventually outshine any initial frustration. The scale of battle is overwhelming and chaotic, but there's a definite sense to all the nonsense that, once you uncover it, gives you an incredible rush every time you go toe-to-toe with the enemy--even if you don't come out the other side intact.
Edmond Tran · Jun 18, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Mordhau is an excellent new installment to the medieval hack ‘n’ slash genre, and while many will call it “Chivalry 2″, I feel it stands out on its own with its deep combat mechanics. There is a lot of fun to be had here, and while its not perfect, and I do hope some new maps come soon, it is one of the best of its genre.
Jordan Hawes · May 30, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There have been some issues getting in to servers, especially with friends. Often times I will party with a friend or two, and only one of us will be able to join a server since it fills up to max before we're all in. The load times into a server can be pretty long (even on an SSD), and sometimes the server fills up during that loading time. The game can also stutter or crash, even on menus, though I've only had one crash in my time with the game so far.In the end, Mordhau is a goofy yet realistic medieval combat game that caters to a ton of different players.
Patrick Hancock · May 27, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Mordhau is a complex medieval melee game that’s tough on beginners but satisfying to master, especially in one-on-one duels. Its robust character creator allows for plenty of different playstyles, and its large, varied maps will mean no two rounds feel the same. A long list of game modes means you’re guaranteed to find at least one you love, and its 64-player battles in Frontline mode are true spectacles, dismembered limbs and all. A few technical problems and a couple of unbalanced maps will hopefully get better with time, but it’s already bloody good fun.
Samuel Horti · May 23, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - All told, Mordhau has a lot to offer. Throwing yourself into the grindhouse in Frontline is crazy and chaotic and entertaining, and the maps are large and distinct enough that they are still fun to play, even after several hours. Even weeks after release, players are still probing the depths of the endlessly complex combat system. There’s no single-player element beyond fighting AI bots, however, so the length of time you’ll enjoy this game will depend on how much you enjoy its uniquely flavored competitive multiplayer.
Benjamin Boven · May 21, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - High skill cap melee combat is equally rewarding and daunting, though the archery and support roles could use some work.
T.J. Hafer · May 17, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Even with the struggles over the last week, the launch of Mordhau has clearly been a success for Triternion and players alike. Even as horrible as I am at the combat it is impossible to deny the melee fighting is a welcome reprieve from the usual first-person shooter or Diablo-esque hack-n-slash combat. The dev team seems intent on keeping the community updated on issues as they arise, and they have already announced they will be adding more content to the game.
Mitch Gassner · May 08, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A medieval combat simulator with a robust physics and combat system, Mordhau shows flourishes of brilliance but can't be crowned champion just yet.
