- For what it does struggle with, this is still one of the finest experiences you'll find on the current market with hours upon hours or adventuring to be had. It might get a bit repetitive, sure, but its story and witty characters really make that premium price worth paying.
Emily Sowden · Oct 06, 2018 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - I may have my nits to pick with Monster Hunter Stories, but the game is certainly quite a good JRPG all-around. It ranks fairly high even among the impressive JRPG library of the Nintendo 3DS, so in the increasingly dry traditional JRPG landscape that is today’s mobile gaming market, it’s a real blessing. It’s not as good as a mainline Pokemon release, nor will it keep you playing as long as a mainline Monster Hunter game, but I suspect fans of either looking for something to play on their phones or tablets won’t be unhappy with Monster Hunter Stories.
Shaun Musgrave · Oct 02, 2018 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Monster Hunter Stories is an adventure like no other, and a standout experience on Nintendo 3DS that is worthy of your time. Heartwarming and memorable, it’s all that you could ever want it to be. Ride On!
Alex Seedhouse · Oct 15, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - At first, I wasn't completely sold on MHStories, but the longer I played the more that the game's heart shone through. The story might not have much depth, but what the game might lack in narrative it more than makes up for with its charm.
James Galizio · Oct 01, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Monster Hunter Stories is a decent spin-off, perfect for introducing anyone to the Monster Hunter franchise. The battles may allow for too much gambling and the environments can be unappealing for the eye, but it still features an interesting story that will keep you hooked for dozens of hours.
Cody Perez · Sep 20, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Monster Hunter Stories is an enjoyable 40+ hour romp that adds depth and personality to world that often lacks narrative. Collecting monsters, becoming immersed in in-game events, and taking in the rather beautiful world that Capcom has created are all pivotal to enjoying this experience, while the tedium associated with battles can trigger a desire for multiple breaks during extended sessions.
Riley Little · Sep 19, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Monster Hunter Stories is an unlikely alternative to the main series of the Monster Hunter franchise that effortlessly packs a punch. With its adorable cast of characters and art style, it’s inevitable to be drawn by it. With changes in the battle mechanics and role as a player, returning fans might be skeptical with how it holds up, but rest assured it’s a game for both returning fans and newcomers to enjoy and seamlessly fawn over.
Judi Azmand · Sep 17, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Fans will appreciate the new take on time honored series mechanics in Monster Hunter Stories, while newcomers will find a more accessible and inviting game than the franchise has ever had before.
Pramath Parijat · Sep 16, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - For a spin-off that manages to change the core of what makes the mainline series so popular, Monster Hunter Stories does an amazing job becoming a stand-out title for the series. There’s loads to be discovered in Stories, with a perfect level of challenge for those who want to take their time or those looking to speed their way to the end-game content.
Kirstin Swalley · Sep 13, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Monster Hunter Stories is that rare and magical opportunity to befriend your favorite monster and ride it into battle.
