  • Real-life Major League Baseball continues to evolve in ways to encourage faster play in hopes of appealing to a broader audience, but MLB The Show 23 feels somehow ahead of the game. At the same time, the new storyline mode shows the past is just as important as the future, providing players with the best of both worlds.

  • MLB The Show 23 is the greatest baseball title in both the series and of all time. It's also the closest we will get to real-life baseball experiences. Plus, The Negro Leagues' storylines are one of the most significant additions to a sports game.

  • MLB The Show 23 moves the franchise forward in several ways. The Negro Leagues storyline shines bright as the best addition we’ve seen in the series. While San Diego Studios didn’t pitch a perfect game, they delivered a game worthy of being called The Show.

  • As a whole, MLB The Show 23 is likely one of the strongest entries that we've received in quite some time. The addition of the Negro Leagues Storylines mode doesn't simply make for a lot of fun, but it's something that I'm convinced every hardcore baseball fan needs to experience for themselves.

  • MLB The Show 23 really does have all it’s bases covered here. San Diego are to be commended on a significant step forward. With an exceptionally strong new mode that breathes new life into the formula while perfecting and tweaking mechanics, visuals and audio, it’s hard not to recommend MLB The Show 23 to anyone even mildly interested in the great game of baseball.

  • Road to the Show has still been neglected, but incremental gameplay improvements slightly enhance the on-field action, and Franchise has received a long-overdue shot in the arm with its expanded scouting system. The new seasonal structure to Diamond Dynasty should also make for a more interesting mode throughout the course of the year, and Storylines: The Negro Leagues is worth the price of admission alone.

  • MLB The Show 23 took much of what was old with the long-running franchise and made it all feel new and refreshing. It’s rare for an annual sports game to put this much love and dedication considering it’ll be rendered obsolete in 12 months, but San Diego Studio pulled it off, and the end result is a stellar baseball simulation that exceeds in almost every way.

  • MLB The Show 23 isn’t a perfect game, however. Minor issues poke their heads out of the dirt, such as the commentators incorrectly explaining a situation. Sometimes they mistakenly call plays, but these instances are sporadic enough not to impact the overall experience. The player management screen has also taken a step backward. It’s a bit more challenging to navigate this time around, never quite feeling as intuitive as last year’s version.

  • MLB The Show 23 is another solid addition in what is the best annual sports sim franchise. San Diego Studio continues to show a deep knowledge and understanding of baseball and the culture surrounding it. The addition of The Negro Leagues is a massive improvement to the overall product, and the ability to scan your face into Road to the Show is a fun new feature as well.

  • MLB The Show 23 is a continuation of one of the best sports game franchises on the market, and the inclusion of the Negro Leagues Storylines mode makes it an even better way to experience the game and learn about its history even further.
