  Miitopia relies on the Mii cast and their silly dynamics to carry you through largely basic gameplay, if Nintendo’s constant prompts to stop playing weren’t already a reminder this game is designed to be played in increments at a time. Taking it slow still won’t prevent you from realising how repetitive a playthrough can be.

  Despite these struggles, Miitopia is a great RPG option for fans of any age. The cute graphics and simple gameplay may be the perfect way to introduce a young player to the joys of RPG games or offer a long-time gamer the chance to create a party modeled off any popular series and put them through a goofy number of harmless quests.

  The core battle system is too thin, and the activities and charming character interactions aren’t enough to paper over that problem. This is the most robust mii maker, but it’s all at a price that’s downright terrible. I wanted to like Miitopia more than I did, but it’s more like a Mii-nopia.

  Miitopia is a perfect evolution of that concept, giving players the freedom to make an experience that's truly unique to them. It can drag at times, and die-hard RPG fans will likely scoff at the difficulty level, but it perfectly distills that core appeal of the genre in a way that really works. Miitopia is whatever you want it to be, and if you're willing to lean into the absurdity, you'll love the ride.

  Overall, Miitopia is a decent game with clear flaws, but it’s not a bad game by any means. From the outside, it may just look like yet another Mii game that is trying to cash in on the success of the Wii generation. But buried within that exterior that’s reminiscent of a bygone era is a fun little romp of an RPG.

  Overall, I’m pleased to say that Miitopia surpassed my expectations. There’s a surprising amount of content here, given the initial appearance and cutesy graphics. If you prefer the light-hearted side of RPGs, there’s a lot of fun to be had.

  Miitopia is a fun and funny if flawed game. While this rerelease may be worthwhile to some for the character creator alone, its unwillingness to provide deeper and more balanced gameplay makes it difficult to want to experience everything the game has to offer or even just finish it.

  Miitopia is mostly the same on Switch, to a fault. If you weren't crazy about this one on 3DS it won't change your mind, and the same flaws are intact here. Still, if you're an incredibly creative person that loves to spend their days endlessly perfecting Miis, you'll find a lot to love here. While its shortcomings are laid bare, its core strength, personality, is at the forefront.

  As an RPG, Miitopia is about as light as it gets, meaning anyone looking for a modicum of depth will be let down. It's content being a light-hearted, laugh-focused piece of entertainment that doesn't require much thought or skill, and as long as you're content with that too you should have a good time.
