  • Metroid Prime Remastered ticks all the boxes. Not only one of the best Metroid games out there, not only one of the best single-player adventures ever, not only an amazing remaster… you get the idea.

  • It is an atmospheric puzzle game with tons of exploration and some combat mixed in. The boss battles are fun, but exploring Talon IV is by far the star of the show. Each area is intricately designed to showcase where you can go, while also showing you places you can’t right now.

  • Metroid Prime Remastered shadow dropped out of nowhere and reminded the world why the first 3D adventure of Samus is a timeless achievement. Retro Studios showed that with a few tweaks and a visual overhaul a masterpiece will always remain so.

Prime Remastered does what all the best remasters do in looking just how you remembered it in your head, until you actually compare the two and realize just how significantly details have been improved.

  • The adventure remains as timeless, with a near-perfect mix of combat and exploration that continues to be compelling all these years later. The improvement to the graphics helps the game look even better than some modern releases, while the sound is richer thanks to being uncompressed.

  • The visual and performance improvements go a long way to making it more approachable, but paramount to those upgrades is the fact that it controls as well as nearly any other shooter on the Switch today. Metroid Prime was a masterpiece in 2002, and that assessment still rings true in 2023.

  • Metroid Prime Remastered is an example of how a remaster should be done. There were no real changes to gameplay, visuals or anything like that. Just some minor improvements, such as added control schemes, to help modernize it a bit. Aside from some lengthy load times when you’re initially getting into the game or loading a save, the game really has no faults.
