- As a sequel, Metro Exodus pulls ahead of the rest of the franchise in a big way by leaving the very metro itself behind. Aesthetically, the place is a joy to explore from beginning to end, and there’s enough variation to keep things feeling fresh. Dig down deep and it’s another Metro with a new skin, but it’s a damned good one of those all the same.
Jon Sutton · Mar 03, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The Metro series has cemented itself into the gaming landscape through its mixture of intense first-person shooting and its unique take on life in post-nuclear Russia. In an attempt to outlive the nuclear war that ended up ravaging the surface, people barricaded themselves in Moscow's metro tunnels. Thus, began a new life which even saw an organized society sprout in the bowels of the underground. But different ideologies, the darker side of human nature and external dangers didn't take long to make their presence noticed. The series' protagonist, Artyom, always had a dream of reaching the surface and, while surface segments weren't missing from the first two titles, Metro Exodus places most of its action above ground.
Woozie · Mar 02, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Much like the previous games in the franchise, Metro Exodus isn’t perfect. Yet, despite that fact, this threequel’s bold decision to take its world in a new direction means that its glaring positives outweigh its lack of refinement. The gameplay is solid, the visuals are terrific and Metro Exodus’s decision to try new, courageous gameplay mechanics makes it a thrill to play, overall, meaning that this is not only a fitting culmination to Artyom’s story, but also 4A’s studio-defining work on the franchise as well.
Callum Williams · Feb 25, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A gorgeous and immersive first-person survival game that takes all the best the series has had to offer, and runs with it. The slow pace can take a little getting used to, but that visceral heft to the game really helps to place you in its world. The open world is a nice addition, but the game still plays at its best in its claustrophobic smaller areas. If you’re seeking a palette cleanser after years of breakneck shooters, Metro Exodus is a great choice.
Jamie Collyer · Feb 23, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The conclusion to Artyom’s journey has the best gameplay and most compelling story of the series, on top of incredible visual and audio presentation. It retains the series’ simplistic stealth system and falters with control, writing and dialogue issues, but even so, Metro Exodus is an odyssey worth undertaking.
Nick Monahan · Feb 22, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With a bit more spit and polish, Metro Exodus could have been a real masterpiece. Unfortunately, the end result doesn’t quite hit the mark. Here’s hoping developer 4A is able to squash the bugs that riddle the game with patches down the road because there’s a satisfying shooter experience buried beneath the game’s many bumps and bruises.
Francis DiPersio · Feb 22, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Players who take the time to experience what this new entry into the Metro series has to offer will no doubt witness one of the greatest narrative survival horror experiences present within a video game.
Daniel Pereira · Feb 22, 2019 Reviewed on XB1 - Metro Exodus will suck you in immediately with its apocalyptic setting, adrenaline action, an innovative combination of visuals and mechanics. The narrative is as good as it is in the book, the characters are all colorful and the story is interesting all the way. The game comes highly recommended!
Alec Sandar · Feb 21, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Despite shortcomings like a rather by the numbers level of quality of side missions, poor performance both visually and audibly, Metro Exodus still manages to deliver a compelling experience. Thanks to its meaty crafting and gun customization, a beautiful character-driven story focused more on humans than the fantastical, and a world built around fear, desolation, and tension, Exodus will definitely be one of 2019's most talked about games by the end of the year.
Cade Onder · Feb 18, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Metro Exodus is an entertaining post-apocalyptic shooter that isn’t afraid to take chances with the series’ formula. There are still occasional jump scares, resources are scarce, and often times humans are your worst enemy. The addition of large, open levels really freed up 4A Games to make a world all the more detailed and believable. A few technical issues hold the game back a bit, but they are by no means a deal breaker.
