- The only thing that dulls Raiden's blade is the camera. It's atrocious, and often jerks around erratically when you're in the thick of a fight. This is a problem when groups of enemies are coming at you from all angles. The environment design is also drab, and at odds with the extravagant combat and characters. It looks nice in places, but there are a lot of sewers and grey warehouses to slog through. Those gripes aside, Rising is a welcome sight on PC. Its snappy, responsive combat looks and feels great, and it's wonderfully insane.
Andy Kelly · Jan 17, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It says something when I usually skip a developer’s games and end up really loving one of them after playing it through. With a full package including the game and all the DLC priced at $30, this is a steal. Even if you’re not a Metal Gear fan, if you enjoy lots of action and some fast-paced combat, you should really pick up Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. You’ll have a really fun time.
Drew Leachman · Jan 14, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The PC port of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has its share of issues, but it still gets the nod over its console counterparts. While there are only six different resolutions, it does support native 1080p along with various graphical options that should have fans joyful just how sharp Raiden can look. If you for some reason missed out on the game last year, this is the perfect opportunity to fix that as it will have you rocking out over its fantastic soundtrack and genuinely entertained by the gruesome dismemberment mechanics.
Adam Beck · Jan 14, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Though its gameplay isn’t nearly as deep as some of its contemporaries, it is just as rewarding. You will have to make some concessions though to really appreciate this game, and being a Metal Gear fan certainly helps to overlook flaws like the inconsistent parrying. There haven’t been many games to provide such an astounding swordplay engine though, and for all its shortcomings, Revengeance is still a solid game that should be proud to bear the Metal Gear brand.
Luke Brown · Mar 01, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a reminder that not everything in the Metal Gear universe has to move at a snake's pace. While there are more rewarding stylized action games out there, there's just enough depth in Revengeance to make it a worthwhile purchase, especially for those who follow Platinum Games.
Miguel Conception · Feb 21, 2013 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a solid game with sparks of excellence, but difficulty niggles and occasionally obtuse controls let it down. Lowering the challenge to one of the easier tiers helps to alleviate the worst of the combat frustrations, but the slender campaign and camera issues remain. This is a fun side-story for fans of the franchise, and there are some tremendous set-pieces – but it's just not quite the ultra sharp adventure that we were hoping for.
Greg Giddens · Feb 19, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - If it weren’t for the occasional camera issue, a steep learning curve, and somewhat frustrating QTE’s, this game would be pretty much flawless. That being said, it is an absolutely gorgeous title with a terrific soundtrack and just the right mix of Platinum Game’s frenetic, stylish action and Kojima Production’s fantastic storytelling, and when everything is combined it makes for a wild, over the top, exciting game that should not be missed.
Jennifer Dingle · Feb 19, 2013 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Rising plays great, no matter your platform of choice, but with greater control over the game's graphics, and with the preloaded DLC, the PC port is easily the best version out of the three. If you're even vaguely interested in the Metal Gear series or intelligent hack-and-slash games, do not pass up a chance to play this exciting and addictive hybrid.
Peter Brown · Feb 19, 2013 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance combines reckless abandon with the beauty of precision. It's a fast, frantic, fun game that does its own thing. But its bizarre plot manages to carve out a comfortable niche within the Metal Gear franchise despite the change of pace. Platinum Games has done something incredibly rare: honoring a beloved series while successfully broadening its reach into a whole new genre.
Michael McWhertor · Feb 19, 2013 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Even with that in mind, I found Metal Gear Rising to be a thrilling and engaging experience. The swordplay is fun, and it's really fascinating to see the different spots where either Kojima's or Platinum's signature styles shine through. It also has a wild final confrontation that shows elements of both, doling out some heavy-handed political preaching while also putting a man-sized ninja cyborg up against... well, something way crazier (and dirty-mouthed) than a man-sized ninja cyborg.
