  • Meet Your Maker starts with a great concept, but it takes time, patience, and the willingness to fail a lot to really enjoy what the game has to offer. Player made levels range from brilliant to annoying, and unfortunately building is locked behind hours of grinding, which just seems like poor design. Negatives aside, Meet Your Maker does have a pretty compelling loop for both sadists and masochists.

  • Meet Your Maker‘s well-realized and unique concept combines two distinctive gameplay styles together. Building bases and raiding others’ creations is a lot of fun, but I do question the longevity of the game thanks to its lackluster story and progression system.

  • Meet Your Maker is a highly addictive first-person shooter/base-building hybrid. Its satisfying gameplay loop is cemented by various progression systems, filling that itch of watching bars and numbers go up at a consistent rate. The tools and systems are in place to allow for creative death traps filled with tons of hair-raising moments and satisfying encounters, further enhanced when playing with a friend. In fact, the community has already made expert use of existing content.

  • From spike traps to blocks made entirely of corrosive acid, the level of shenanigans you can put other players through is pretty high. There are kinks for the developers to figure out of course, but there’s enough raw potential here to keep even a frustrated player coming back for more. The foundation is important, and Behavior has really nailed that part. I’d love to see the big, creepy science baby like, change form or something though. Like a disgusting, Gigeresque Digimon or something.

  • There’s a little bit of something for everyone lured in by the promises of the Chimera – the first-person shooter elements of raiding harmoniously co-exist alongside the more open sandbox Outpost creation features. Meet Your Maker can only improve as time goes on, with more upgrades, items, gimmicks and building options no doubt squarely at the forefront of Behaviour Interactive’s road map.

  • Meet Your Maker may grab you for a while with its tricky die-and-retry raids and reasonably approachable building tools, but some frustrating quirks and a lack of depth means the game’s not a lock to become Behaviour Interactive’s next live-service success.

Gruesomely moreish Meet Your Maker wants players to think outside of the boxes they’re building – with luck, post-launch content will encourage them to expand on their imaginations.

  • Meet Your Maker's core premise is very strong, but the game's aesthetic and samey levels currently don't live up to that vision. While it can be fun in short bursts, raiding Outposts can quickly become tedious, although building your own stages for others to try is more fulfilling. Unless Behavior Interactive can deliver much more variety in both gameplay and tools available to players, this game already feels like it's reached its limit.

  • Meet Your Maker isn’t perfect. It matches with the whole post-apocalyptic vibe but, initially, we were disappointed that you have to build around existing structures. It goes with the post-apocalyptic vibe but you can’t take a flat, pristine piece of land and start there.

Meet Your Maker is an awesome action game that beautifully executes on a terrific concept. It’s missing some depth in its tools of destruction, has some bugs and wonkiness, and its thin story is a big ol’ nothing burger, but as a starting point for another live-service game from the team that brought us Dead By Daylight, it's extremely impressive.
