- MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a very time-consuming game if you wish to progress, but it does feel rewarding when you slowly start achieving your goals. From its elaborate yet easy-to-master control system to the story giving you the incentive to grow your mercenary outfit for revenge, you will have loads of things to do. The graphics look great but can feel a bit dated from time to time, especially when you start taking a closer look at certain parts of the different maps.
MC_JP · Nov 06, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you just like to blow stuff up with high-powered lasers and rockets, this might not be your bag of tea and you may not get a lot out of it. If you get the most satisfaction from playing the market, maximising profit, and running SWOT analyses on potential targets, it won't revolutionise your game. But if you're into storytelling and are willing to read stuff to get the most out of it – which I assume you are since you're reading this – then Legend of the Kestrel Lancers might just be worth a purchase.
Thomas Mikkelsen · Oct 22, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The real issue is the fact that everything is so expensive; while a player can make repairs to their mechs in a conflict zone; it will cost them more money and resources to do so. The solution; to warp to a different system that isn’t in conflict but the issue is its very expensive to do that. It isn’t long that it becomes apparent the real game is the management sim, and the combat takes a back seat.
Terrence Johnson · Oct 07, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a lot of fun for fans of the BattleTech franchise. It may not be the flashiest game around, and its story can be very campy at times. But this is pretty much your best bet for playing a ‘Mech game on a PlayStation console. If you have (online) friends, co-op will likely provide some extra thrills, and the generous DLC support is great to see. It may be a bit rough around the edges, but MechWarrior 5 is more than welcome on PlayStation after all this time.
Paulmichael Contreras · Oct 05, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - This is far from being a bad game (you really need to screw things up to make mechs with rocket launchers not fun), but I guess I expected a bit more from it. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries focuses too much of its efforts in pointless filler, such as a milquetoast story and an annoying progression system. Its insane multiplayer is where it shines the brightest, but then again, I feel like this is best experienced on PC, with a mouse and keyboard setup.
Leo Faria · Jun 25, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Despite how overwhelming and confusing it can be, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries certainly has something to offer players who want to get stuck into the fine details of setting up their own interstellar mercenary outfit. The combat can be fun, if deliberately slow, and once set up right having a powerful mech wrecking shop is entertaining. It’s just the bits in between that can drag, with confusing menus and systems that aren’t fully explained.
Jamie Collyer · Jun 07, 2021 Reviewed onRead full review - The story doesn’t do enough to make you care, and though customization and combat are fun, other issues like frame-rate drops or the repetitive mission design hurt the game a great deal. For fans of pure mech action, there’s enjoyment to be found in MechWarrior 5, but by and large, this is a game with a lot of unresolved issues that ultimately hold it back from being anything more than passingly fun.
Anthony Rivera · Jan 20, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a big, brash, bulky return to the spotlight for the mainline MechWarrior franchise that delivers on its promise of a more sim-like experience than many of its contemporaries. While it can be frustrating to get caught up in economic repair micromanagement, most of your enmity will be blown away when the robots start to rumble.
Quinn Levandoski · Jan 16, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The biggest issue with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is that it hits you with all of its shortcomings at once. Keep playing, though, and the game establishes itself as a fun title that's worthy of the MechWarrior moniker. Play it with friends, and it becomes even more entertaining. Dated aspects of its presentation aside, the combat remains fun mission after mission, and it continues to test you as you become more powerful. Start blowing apart enemy mechs with a small array of PPC cannons and make a few big pay days, and you'll appreciate the game for what it is.
Tony "OUberLord" Mitera · Jan 08, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries tries to be inclusive, but unfortunately makes the mainstream issues with the genre all the more apparent without doing anything truly new or exciting to really draw the player in.
