  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gives players the full package right from the starting line. With an enormous roster of both characters and raceways to select from MK8 Deluxe brings over all of the content from the Wii U edition of the game and then goes and adds more content. While those wanting the single player experience might not find too much to race for, as a multiplayer title this is a great one to challenge your friends to.

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a must-buy for anyone who has a Nintendo Switch. Like the previous game before it, all the tracks work wonders, the music is Nintendo-quality fantastic, and the controls are spot-on. Not only are you getting everything that Mario Kart 8 had to offer, you also get a few new characters, a greatly enhanced Battle mode, and the ability to play wherever you go. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to claim the top spot with Rosalina in the Blue Falcon kart!

  • Overall though, there’s not a lot I can fault Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for. It’s a remake, sure, but it’s also the best the series has ever been and now a family favorite in my house. Oh, and I barely even mentioned the return of the excellent Battle Mode and all its arena-based kart combat fun. This one is highly recommended, and I only hopes Nintendo releases more content in the future.

  • Mario Kart 8 is a great addition to the Nintendo Switch library. While it may be a port of an older game it’s been updated and improved immensely. There are more ways to play than ever before, and being able to play Mario Kart anywhere in portable mode is a major plus!

  • If you are just jumping in for the very first time, prepare to have your mind blown away. A true modern multiplayer classic, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe stands as one of the greatest games that Nintendo has ever made.

  • I say this without hyperbole and not as a stealth insult to anything else – I quite genuinely believe this to be the finest addition to the Switch’s library so far. I can’t argue with how much I’ve been playing it and how much I want to keep playing it, even as I type this. It’s exactly this kind of compulsive experience the Switch needed, and if that had to be the result of a remaster, so be it.

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has taken all the best parts from the Wii U version and improves quite a bit upon where it needed some adjustments. From the entirely revamped battle mode to all the brand new characters and features, Deluxe is far more than just a port. Those who have never played Mario kart 8 and have a Switch should consider this a need to play title, and those who had it on Wii U should know that this is still worth picking up as it is the definitive version by far. Whether racing on the track or taking down opponents in battle mode, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a perfect addition to the Switch library and remains the best Mario Kart title to date.

  • With a fresh coat of paint and a couple of tune-ups, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe makes itself a great definitive edition of an already pretty-good game. Smart Steering, though awkwardly on by default, is a godsend for those who play with younger and less-skilled racers, and the revised Battle Mode fills a hole in the game’s heart. A lack of additional race courses and content may deter those who already own the original Wii U version of the game, however.

  • All in all, Nintendo could have just thrown Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Switch as was, but it didn’t. The company instead opted to help justify the purchase to those that have already experienced the original by adding a slew of new features. Meanwhile, those that own a Switch and missed out on this game’s initial debut have absolutely nothing holding them back now.

  • There's enough content here even if you've already played Mario Kart 8, thanks to its impressive and addicting new Battle Mode, or even the four additional Cups in case you've never bothered to buy the DLC for the Wii U game.

About the game

Driving up a waterfall or across the ceiling can provide an intense adrenaline rush, but that’s not all anti-gravity is good for. It also provides a wild new gameplay mechanic: if you collide into other racers in zero-g, you’ll earn speed boosts worth bragging about. Luckily, you can upload and share your best moments and watch your friends’ using the all-new Mario Kart TV.* Returning features include 12-player online play*, gliders, underwater racing, motorbikes, and custom karts. You can even race as Bowser’s seven minions, the Koopalings!
