  • I’m thankful for the upgrades that you gradually unlock, but I fear that they’re a little far into the game, making initial players drop the game prematurely. If you’re happy to be patient with this cosy game, I say give it a go. I enjoyed Magical Delicacy, and respect that it has so many great ideas – but you certainly have to be in the right mindset to play it.

  • There’s no denying that Magical Delicacy was trying to create something unique and memorable. A cooking-centric Metroidvania cozy game is an especially unique combination of ingredients. But it’s unique for a reason—it needs to be executed especially well to work. And, unfortunately, this game didn’t execute things especially well. Despite its unique premise, Magical Delicacy ultimately serves up little more than a short, frustrating, and boring cooking-themed Metroidvania that doesn’t seem capable of fully committing to what it seems to want to be.

  • Magical Delicacy brews up the perfect mixture of Metroidvania exploration, cozy game farming, and narrative intrigue to keep you hooked. You’ll easily spend hours helping Flora in her quest and enjoy every second of it.

  • Magical Delicacy is a difficult game for me to write about. There are a lot of little points of frustration which at times made me want to stop playing, but then another piece of the world or another crafting puzzle would bring me back. These pain points are most easily felt early on in the game, which is a shame because I think it will stop a lot of people from playing before they can experience all the delights that Magical Delicacy has to offer. Perhaps this makes Magical Delicacy a particularly apt title - this game is a bit of an acquired taste, but there’s nothing quite like it.

  • Magical Delicacy carves itself a niche place in the cozy game market. It stands out from the crowd by its mix of Metroidvania platforming and cooking mechanics. The title is a delightful offering of cozy exploration, resource gathering, and hands-on cooking. Magical Delicacy impresses through its pixel art style, town exploration, hands-on crafting mechanics, soundtrack, and accessibility. Nonetheless, the sluggish platformer mechanics, a slow and often confusing story progression, and cumbersome cooking and delivery UI slightly affect this enjoyment.

  • A cosy 2D Metroidvania featuring witches and cookery, that looks delightful but suffers from numerous irritations in its interface and level design.

  • Magical Delicacy has some tasty elements – the game looks gorgeous and revealing more of the map as you discover new, previously unreachable locations is exciting. We appreciate the way certain things, like farming, are kept simple. Just plant a seed in the ground and wait for it to grow – no laborious watering of hundreds of squares in this game. We enjoyed cooking up a storm and the addition of being able to make, and use, magical potions certainly adds a bit of spice to proceedings.

  • There is a lot to love about Magical Delicacy. It is super duper charming and wholesome, with platforming and side-scrolling mechanics that are mostly on the “cozy” side of gameplay. Exploring the very tops and the very bottoms of this world is fun, especially when you manage to uncover new areas of the map. However, the lack of information about some of the cooking methods and navigational hints may leave you a bit adrift in the world of Grat.

  • Take a few jumping puzzles from a 2D platformer, a pinch of progression from a Metroidvania, the story of a gorgeous indie title, lashings of pixel art, a dollop of relaxing tunes, mix well, and bake until you can see the personality rising out of it. If that sounds tempting, that’s Magical Delicacy for you.

  • Overall, Magical Delicacy offers a cozy and relaxing experience that you can play at a leisurely pace, which makes it inclusive to all players, regardless of skill level. The cooking aspects are done incredibly well, and it creates an enticing gameplay loop where you want to keep making new dishes. However, the game was not ambitious enough with its centralized theme about witches, which had ample opportunities to introduce some fascinating mechanics but failed to capitalize on this, ultimately holding back the experience.
