- GOOD Mafia: Definitive Edition's native PS5 version is the best way to experience Hangar 13's remake, thanks to improved visuals and performance.
Varun Karunakar · Aug 28, 2026 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The game definitely shows its age with frustrating controls and vehicle handling, but the next story beat is enough of an excuse to continue pressing forward. Mafia: Definitive Edition's narrative and everything that comes with it holds up to this day, and it's one worth revisiting even if you know it like the back of your hand.
Liam Croft · Feb 01, 2023 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Mafia: Definitive Edition is how a remake should be done. By taking and meticulously remoulding the original game, Mafia: Definitive Edition sings with a deliciously authentic 1930’s gangster shooter experience that’s enriched to no end by a chapter-based story that keeps the focus on the story and its characters.
James Davie · Oct 12, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remarkable reimaging of the original title that flexes its muscles in graphical fidelity and storytelling but falls flat in other areas. While I fully enjoyed my time with it, its mediocre third-person shooting mechanics, abysmal AI, and erratic difficulty can sometimes be a test of perseverance. It is a reminder of the rather old game buried under the shiny new graphical improvements.
Andreas Salmen · Oct 09, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Mafia: Definitive Edition is stuck between a rock and a hard place then: neither a slice of nostalgia nor a particularly good modern experience in its own right. Temper your expectations and there’s a 10-hour campaign to enjoy, but it’s hard not to feel like this is a missed opportunity all around.
Edward Love · Oct 08, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Mafia: Definitive Edition is a great game that captures the story of the original Mafia game in a modern jacket. The story is amazing, the chapters are pieced together with interesting cutscenes brought to you by great voice actors. The gameplay is smooth, feels modern, yet has these classical elements so it still feels like the old game. Thanks to the different difficulty settings it welcomes all kinds of players to enjoy the story that most couldn’t before due to the game being too difficult. The graphics are nice and the music takes you back to the 1930s.
MC_JP · Oct 07, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I’m going to level with you, reader: I went into Mafia Definitive Edition expecting to be underwhelmed. What I ended up playing was far-and-away, infinitely better than I was expecting, featuring fantastic storytelling, compelling, yet immensely flawed characters (in a good way), and a world that is teeming with life. You don’t have to be a fan of the original game in order to feel like a member of the family. Don’t worry! There’s more than enough hot lead to go around.
Staff Reviewer · Oct 06, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - As the title infers, Mafia: Definitive Edition is indeed the definitive version of the classic game, this time with completely redone visuals and updated gameplay that makes the game feel like it could have released today as a brand new game and few would have known the difference.
Dean James · Oct 06, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Mafia: Definitive Edition is a complete remake of a classic crime game. It looks better than almost any other open-world crime sim you'll see this generation and has a story that'll keep you engaged to the end. It might not be the most revolutionary or innovative title in the genre, but it'll certainly keep you playing. This is an excellent story to play over the course of the weekend, and you're almost certain to be recommending it to your friends once you're done.
Dave Aubrey · Oct 02, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - There are recent games that have better mechanics, visuals, and audio than Mafia: Definitive Edition. But the team at Hanger 13 have done an amazing job in bringing Mafia up to today’s standard. The dialogue and telling of the story are much improved from the original, and although I encountered the graphical glitches, the visuals feel as though they fit in the contemporary.
