  • LocoCycle is a crazy fun game. If you don’t like cheezy, then don’t bother. But if you like fun sayings with some fighting and driving action, this game is for you!

  • The whole experience frustrates me. Driving at insane speeds on a wise cracking sentient motorcycle should be gaming nirvana, but the writing, mechanics, and design of Loc0Cycle are subpar. It’s not worth the price of admission, and is one of the Xbox One’s weaker launch titles.

  • Now, it’s relatively short, and completing each section awards a hefty 75 achievement points, which might be enough to compel some Gamerscore-whores to stick with it. But it’s ultimately a tedious slog with not enough self-awareness to make each snappy interaction in any way rewarding.

  • Ultimately, Lococycle doesn’t really do anything to justify it being a part of the Xbox One’s launch lineup. The only good thing we can really say about it was that we are fans of its cast and it is currently the lowest priced game on the Xbox One library. Its graphics are dull and current gen. Its sound effects are limited and frequently repeated. ...The minigames tossed in to add variety are just as poorly executed as Lococycle’s overarching mechanics.

  • Even looking fantastic wouldn’t save how inane, silly and not fun Twisted Pixel’s latest effort is. A generic voice and personality for IRIS, a weird twist in the form of Pablo, and tired vehicular combat do not make for a fantastic Xbox One debut. At least the studio’s other games had their moments of cuteness — what can I say about LocoCycle, other than este juego es basura?

  • Without the dull, ill-considered cutscenes and deeply problematic content, LocoCycle would be a shallow, light distraction. With well-worn mechanics that mostly work it's a competent genre mash-up. But the story and writing are abysmal, with cutscenes full of racist, unfunny crap. Twisted Pixel can do so much better than this.

If nothing else, LocoCycle earns its name. It’s got not one, but two sentient motorcycles, and buckets full of loco. I imagine I’ll have forgotten what LocoCycle played like long before I forget its unapologetically zany live-action bits, and its questionable treatment of Pablo. Its inconsistent gameplay becomes tedious despite its imaginative variety, and its levels lack cohesion or a sense of momentum. Like the cheesy 90's films it apes, LocoCycle is memorable, but not quite good.

  • Ultimately that may've been Twisted Pixel's intention, though, as the bells and whistles outside of the core are rather entertaining. The story, obviously, never takes itself seriously, and some of the characters you meet are so stupid you can't help but warm to them. The same can be said for the script, which is packed full of references and nods to some of pop culture's biggest hits.

  • Overall, though, as varied and ridiculous as the gameplay can be, it doesn't really draw you in as much as it feels like it should. ...While there are sections that utterly break away from the usual game play, such as a Mortal Kombat-style showdown between IRIS and Spike, they don't feel like they happen enough for a game that almost prides itself in its randomness.

  • LocoCycle tries a lot of new things thematically, while simultaneously paying homage to classic arcade racing shooters. It doesn't succeed in everything it sets out to do, but if you're looking for a decent arcade shooter to toy around with on your new Xbox One, LocoCycle is it. For everyone else, you'll have to wait until it hits the Xbox 360.
