- The game features several fun stories, all told in a unique way. You’ll be exploring these stories with some great turn-based combat and a variety of mechanics unique to each era you’ll visit. All of this is delivered with beautiful 2D HD graphics and a great soundtrack.
Wirotaboto · Jun 12, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With fantastic art, beautiful music, and a wildly experimental concept, LIVE A LIVE is a wonderful remake that feels like taking a time machine back to the golden era of RPGs.
Des Miller · May 25, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Live A Live can get tricky, its grid-based battle system is a little passe, and it isn’t the most awe-inspiring remake you ever saw, but it’s a lovingly crafted revitalization that will please anybody with a fondness for old-school JRPGs.
James Davie · May 08, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Live A Live is a varied thrill ride that still impresses all these years later, and while the combat does struggle to live up to the rest of the adventure, the game does a fantastic job of tying all of its intriguing, individual stories together. It's a history-hopping journey we'll be thinking about for quite some time.
Jade Sayers · Apr 24, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Overall, I loved Live A Live. From its gallery of gripping stories, endearing characters, fun combat system, and gorgeous presentation, this game had me hooked from beginning to end. Not to mention that Live A Live has a ton of replay value as certain chapters feature multiple endings for their stories depending on the player’s choices during them.
Alexander Cope · Apr 24, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Live A Live is an interesting game that will most likely excite some players while losing others. The unique stories are great for short bursts but the lack of investment may turn off some. Still I love that we live in an era when lost games can once again make a return. Live A Live is certainly not for everyone, but for those that it does hit it is sure to please.
Ken McKown · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall though, we feel Live A Live delivers. Bringing back such an old game is never easy and making one with so many ideas feel relevant in 2022 is a tough feat. But Live A Live does a good job of modernising this lost game and making sure a whole new audience can experience it.
Freddie Green · Aug 12, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s hard for me to fault Live A Live too harshly for its ending, though. I’d have been perfectly satisfied if it had simply been seven separate stories, and each of these is well worth playing through even after all these years. There’s so much creativity and joy present that anyone interested in class RPGs owes it to themselves to give it a try.
Andrew Thornton · Aug 01, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Live A Live is still full of charm, and the graphics and gameplay have been tweaked just enough to give it some modern touches. Hopefully, it’ll get the recognition it deserves alongside Square’s other classics.
Jason Faulkner · Aug 01, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - This HD-2D is the best way to enjoy Live A Live, and has come a long way from the original SNES version – it feels like how the game would’ve been made had the means existed at the time. Both the English and Japanese voice talents lift the characterization and emotional impact of the game, and the narratives – while perhaps a little cliched – are a breath of fresh air with their unique approach to storytelling, design and play choices. That modern JRPGs can still take cues from this classic is testament to how timeless it is.
