  • Little Red Lie is a difficult game to recommend without qualification. It’s uncomfortable, confronting, and just about the furthest thing away from a rollicking good time imaginable. And yet, if you’re willing to go on its journey, sharp writing and a laser thematic focus will force you to re-examine some of the reasons you lie, and some of the things you lie about.

  • The “game” suffers from a weird imbalance of pixel art environments, static artistic renderings of scenes, and black backgrounds with walls of text that fill them. I had hoped that the interesting art style might permeate more scenes in the game, but it ends up feeling woefully underutilized in the middle, appearing largely only in Sarah’s story during the first and last hours of gameplay.

  • As a game, Little Red Lie may not look or play like much, but as a piece of interactive fiction, it's intense, thought-provoking, and really well written. It's certainly worth seeing through to the end, even though that involves putting up with some sub-par gameplay.

  • WIll O’Neill’s Little Red Lie is something everyone should play. It may be a bit too much mentally for some, but this is the kind of stuff more games should get into with their narratives. Actual Sunlight was already fantastic narratively but Little Red Lie is not just a worthy follow up but a magnificent piece of interactive fiction in its own right. I’m glad this one is available on multiple platforms so I can now safely tell almost everyone I know to get and play this as soon as possible.

    About the game

Little Red Lie is a narrative-focused, interactive fiction experience that reduces the traditional nine-verb adventure game structure down to a single, context-dependent interaction: LIE.
