- Lil’ Guardsman is a superb game that excels in just about every area, held back only by a couple of notable flaws that prevent it from earning full marks.
Thiago Amaral · Apr 23, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Lil Guardsman is a delightful game that draws you into the complex and nuanced story of a well-constructed fantasy world and explores its political turmoil. The characters and dialogue are wonderfully written, with a great sense of humor and clear indication that your choices, no matter how small, make an impact.
Kirstie Summers · Mar 07, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Lil' Guardsman is charming and novel enough that it's worth playing, but a flawed approach that skirts around aspects of the core idea holds the overall experience back.
Jess Lee · Feb 14, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Lil Guardsman offers an intriguing and easily completable puzzle, wrapped in a cartoony art style with superb script writing. Let yourself become the gatekeeper of the city and decide the fate of all the visitors flocking to the Sprawl, and the city itself.
Holly Alice · Jan 29, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Unique, funny and so entertaining, Lil' Guardsman has all the traits I want from games in my old age. Lil' Guardsman is like nothing else on the market, it's beautiful and so well written that its world will swallow you whole. It's not often you get to play a game that makes you smile from start to finish but Lil' Guardsman stole a Lil' piece of my heart. I cannot recommend it enough.
Sebastian Hawden · Jan 29, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Lil’ Guardsman never overextends with its ambition but rather perfects everything the game does. With nuanced and hilarious writing, gorgeous visuals, complete with fun deducing-based puzzle mechanics, the game is a king amongst its own kingdoms.
Joshua Thompson · Jan 27, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Combining the rules of Papers, Please with the whimsical sensibility of classic LucasArts games is far from an obvious choice, but the results speak for themselves. Lil' Guardsman is a lovely adventure game that succeeds mechanically, creatively, and comically. Sometimes its side quests distract (and detract) from the core gameplay loop, but in general it delivers engaging detective work, a memorable and consequential world, and lots of laughs.
Evan Norris · Jan 26, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, Lil’ Guardsman is an incredibly hilarious, silly, adorable, low pressure decision-based adventure game that is a must-play in my opinion. If you want a hilarious game with heart and soul, then Lil’ Guardsman is for you. I will definitely be revisiting the game myself to try and see how different I can make the kingdom of ‘The Sprawl’. Now, excuse me…I have to go to town to place my bets for the upcoming goblinball game…could you cover my shift at the guard shed today?
Ashley Hill · Jan 26, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - If you've ever thought that operating a guard post sounds like a mundane job then check out Lil' Guardsman where every person you admit or deny has a big impact on the fate of the city. This hilariously silly indie has heart, making the most tedious of jobs entertaining.
Mary Billington · Jan 25, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s still early in 2024, but Lil’ Guardsman is already a contender for our favorite game of the year. There are a handful of minor niggles that stop it from achieving perfection. For example, we would have loved it had the gorgeous visuals been more animated and the load times are a bit too long for how simple the game is. However, the witty writing, high replay value, and fantastic voice acting more than make up for these minor shortcomings.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
In this deduction adventure, you play as Lil - an unlikely 12-year-old hero - covering your dad's shift at the guard shed and are tasked with deciding the fate of over 100 unique characters.
You will question humans, elves, goblins, cyclopses, and other fantasy creatures using your powers of deduction to determine who to admit or deny based on how they respond to your questions and your trusty tools. Sending visitors to jail, inadvertently zapping them to smithereens, or letting them go on their merry way are all part of the job. But be careful: who you let through the castle gates will determine the kingdom's fate.
