  • There's potential here. Light has a likeable aesthetic and exciting ideas, and if future updates can expand on them to create more complex levels and challenges, it could become something fascinating. As it stands, it's hard to recommend something that ends so quickly after making so little impact.

  • Light reaches for greatness, but ends up merely serviceable; nothing breaks or falls apart within its mechanically sound design, but nothing inspires the game to step out from the shadows of better games.

  • It’s kind of sad, because Light feels like the really cool first part of a game; the introduction of something really fun. But then it’s over and there are just so many dangling threads of what this game could and should be. With the addition of more content, this could really be worth picking up.

  • Light is a purely gameplay driven experience emphasizing high scores, and in a way it’s a refreshing alternative to all the glitz and glamour of modern stealth action games. By sticking to the fundamental basics of an enjoyable stealth gaming experience, Light represents an exemplar blueprint for the genre.

  • It’s tough to wholeheartedly recommend Light given its imperfect brevity, but if you couldn't care less about the $12.99 price tag, then by all means give it a try. Click here to visit the game's page on Steam. There’s nothing wrong with a concise game that delivers a targeted and fun experience—just don’t expect to be blown away.

  • It’s such a shame that Light is so short. With some more levels – even just a level editor and Steam Workshop integration – and a few more gameplay elements to play with, this would have been something I’d have happily recommended. As it is, it feels like it’s over before it’s really begun.

  • Light should be better than it is, but it was doomed from the start. Very few great stories have come from such an uninspired setting, and hiding all empathy and humanity behind a haughty desire for a slick minimalism doesn't help. Light is admirable insofar as its visuals and music create a sharp world with a brilliant artificiality about it.

  • After the first few levels of Light I was stuck right into the game, enjoying it immensely and was getting ready to write a glowing review. Then it abruptly stopped an hour in just as it was starting to get good. Short games are fine but there’s little replay value beyond getting a better score, and more importantly the difficulty curve barely gets off the ground before it hits the credits. Light has great ideas but fails to use them in any meaningful way or make any lasting impression - it’s like the setup to a great game that never comes. Shame.

  • Simply put, Light is just a joy to play and experience. So full of charm, each level you complete offers a greater and greater reward. It becomes harder, challenging the mind and pushing you that much further, all while not completely breaking you mentally. It is the perfect length, too: long enough to get the most out of the game and never once becoming dull. The developers have managed to create a fine balance between the length and the difficulty, and they have produced a compelling game that everyone should experience at least once.

  • As it stands Light offers a really solid hour or two of game, but not a lot more. We'll leave it to you to decide whether that's worth the price of admission. If you see it going cheap in a sale, then certainly give it some extra consideration, because we'd happily up the score if the package felt like it was better value for money than it currently is.

About the game

Step into a sinister world of corruption, deceit and shadowy organisations! Light casts you in the role of a man with no memory. After waking up in a strange yet familiar location it’s clear that something’s very, very wrong. Who are you? Where are you? Perhaps most of all, what happened to you? As the protagonist in Light you must use stealth and cunning to navigate around a wonderfully minimalistic-looking environment. Can you succeed in your quest and thwart a plan on a global scale? Don’t just avoid detection, use subterfuge as well. Hack computer terminals to disable security cameras, lock and unlock doors and more. Collect data, fragmented e-mails, memos and scientific reports to slowly piece together the story of Light.
