  • While I'm still fairly early on in Lichtspeer (it's pretty hard, alright), I'm enjoying it a lot and find it hard to put down once you get the hang of things. I've died plenty of times now, but if you pay attention to the attack patterns of the waves, you'll notice when and who you should strike first. It takes some time and practice, but it gets easier once you recognize the sequences. Plus the graphics are beautiful, the music and sound is quirky and delightful, and the controls feel natural. It's a bit unforgiving, but pushes you to get better.

  • If you like replaying existing content to maximize your performance, then you'll get a ton of fun out of Lichtspeer. Its difficulty and control frustrations mean this is only for patient players, overall Lichtspeer is a goofy good time.

  • Lichtspeer takes a simple idea and makes it colourful, challenging, and fun. Its quirky humor will win you over, and there's some addictive high-score chasing to be done, but some frustrating encounters may detract from an otherwise impressive package.

  • The difficulty in the later levels may be a turnoff for some, but that aside, Lichtspeer is highly enjoyable, action packed and a perfect blend of old-school action and new-school design. It hits the sweet spots of those that enjoy both fast-paced arcade gameplay and a cute sense of humor and is the type of game that can easily suck you in for lengthy periods of time.

Lichtspeer is a fun distraction from the current avalanche of triple-A fall titles; one that you will be able to dip in and out of as you please, thanks to its simplistic gameplay and control mechanics. Never demanding a huge investment from the player, but rewarding them if they put the time in.

  • That being said, I still can’t help but recommend Lichtspeer due to its really fun concept, music, design, and easy to learn controls. If you’re not convinced, just watch their trailer and I’m sure that you will be. It’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it gave me quite a few laughs along the way. Pick it up if you’re looking for something casual, hilarious, and fun – the lichtgods demand it!

  • Lichtspeer’s biggest asset is the satisfying rhythm surrounding the aim and throw mechanic. It’s incredibly simple, but compelling when firing on all cylinders. The style and form will keep you entertained and keep you coming back even despite the challenging sections. Lichtspeer may not be the best arcade-style game available on the PS4, but for $10 it’s a game worth picking up and having around for quick gameplay sessions.

  • Lichtspeer won’t have the mass appeal of the AAA games coming out this Fall, but it is more than worthy of your time. With a fun and over the top aesthetic mixed with simplistic game design, Lichtspeer is pure arcade bliss with all the hooks I’ve been looking for in an indie title.

  • Lichtspeer is a brilliant, beguiling, and often chaotically stupid game. It's also one of the best things I've played on mobile for a good long while, and it's well worth picking up.

  • It is a shame as the rest of the game has had a lot of care put into it. The music by Marcin Sonnenberg is excellent, the ancient Germanic future to the game is a decent angle for some humour, but it ultimately fails to maintain interest due to monotonous gameplay. This is a rare case where the game’s presentation outpaces its gameplay, leaving behind a creative and briefly entertaining, yet inexplicably dull game.
