- Its over-reliance on tedious shooting creates an uneven balance of storytelling and gameplay, stymying Liberated’s otherwise thoughtful interpretation of the interactive comic.
Drew Onia · Nov 22, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Doshin the Giant is a wholly unique and pleasingly confusing experience. Balancing working hard and being loved alongside doing things quickly but being hated — as well as random natural disasters — allows for a degree of tactics in an otherwise super chilled-out game.
Daymon Trapold · Apr 01, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Liberated is a game that could have been better. The premise is fine but full of clichés, and there's nothing new to make it more interesting to those who have heard these stories countless times already. The presentation is nice, but the pauses between page turns feel unnecessary considering the style. The gameplay feels repetitive, since direct violence is the only viable answer.
Cody Medellin · Oct 16, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - “When I went into the game, I already expected a cliché dystopian story. What I didn’t see coming is how underdeveloped the characters and plot would be. I expected at least some innovation or an attempt at telling a good story, but this wasn’t even remotely the case. Liberated fell flat on its face; the chapters kept trudging along without adding anything of substance and the gameplay sections were a drag. Everything about the game fails to keep a player engaged; there are a lot of games with the same concept that do a much better job.”
Noparg · Aug 09, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Liberated does something different from many other indie games on the market these days. Its unique play style is already worth the buy, but combine it with stunning art, great flow, and a story that might be almost too relevant, and you got the ideal game to sit down with and get lost in. Maybe just not if you want to get away from current real-world affairs.
Jessica · Jun 27, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The plot and gameplay are both simple to understand, even if the game did end too quickly. I also would have liked some variety in enemies and more strategizing in the game, but this is based on a pretty realistic world and having overpowered robots would probably not fit into the narrative. While it may not the most exciting action-adventure platformer out there, the artwork and stylish storytelling is impressive and makes the experience worthwhile.
Haley Perry · Jun 11, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There are better games out there, folks. I appreciate Liberated’s attempt to blend comic storytelling with action sequences, but hopefully somebody will take this baton and do it better.
Zachary Miller · Jun 08, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Liberated is a beautiful-looking, stylish game where story is first and foremost. If you're looking for a game that ultimately evokes the feeling of playing a graphic novel in the vein of V for Vendetta or Frank Miller's other works, this is your chance. The combat system has some rough edges, but the length of the game is enough to look past some of these decisions. People who love dystopian fiction in comics will probably enjoy the story of the game a great deal, but they will have to be willing to navigate the sometimes-frustrating combat system to see the gorgeously painted tale's conclusion.
Aaron Perine · Jun 04, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s a game that might be fun to look at, given its comic book presentation, but isn’t fun at all when it forces you to play a level. It’s just too glitchy, unfair, and uninspired to make you want to keep playing it for long. A shame, without a doubt, as this could have been the closest counterpart to a V for Vendetta game out there…
Leo Faria · Jun 03, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Liberated explores themes like government deception and corruption, systemic oppression and rebellion against authoritarianism. Set in a cyberpunk dystopian future, it parallels reality in a way that makes it feel very pertinent in today’s political climate, but still enough of a fantasy that it is a fun escape from reality.
