- Lake is not a game that I can recommend to everyone; but if you need some routine and stability in your daily life, you may want to check it out.
Yagmur · May 06, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Still, Lake is the perfect pallet cleanser after a heavier title. It's refreshing to not have to worry about an end of the world prophecy, or an out of control god hell-bent on destruction. However, it's also that simplistic nature that holds it back from a first-class stamp.
Liam Croft · Apr 14, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - That’s something we all could do with more of in this hectic, stressful world. Meredith may be fictional, as may be the gorgeous Providence Oaks, but the life choices she ponders during the course of the game are something we can all relate to. If you’re anything like us, you’ll rue the credits finally rolling, wishing you could continue to deliver mail in that small, sleepy town forever.
Kim Snaith · Apr 11, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Lake is, like the waves that break on its rural American Northwest shore, soothing and peacefully regular in its routine, making it ideal for those seeking a break from a hectic life.
Peter Mattsson · Dec 06, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Lake offers a change of pace from most other games you’ll play, transporting you directly into small towns and winding roads in the mountains. You’d be surprised at how fun something as mundane as postal delivery can get. On top of that, a cast of colorful characters awaits with their own stories to uncover. Overall, we’d say Providence Oaks is worth a visit.
Jessica · Sep 26, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The term "Zen game" gets bandied around for many indie games. That may be apropos for Gamious' latest title too, but having chill game systems still ought to feel engaging. From swimming adventures like Abzû to walking simulators like Gone Home, there's still a tangible connection beneath those simplistic mechanics. There's enough dynamism within them to wholly immerse yourself; conversely, Lake's placid philosophy causes its better qualities to become irrelevant by the end.
Lee Mehr · Sep 17, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - In the end, Lake is a comfy game. It is not a breakthrough game or unique in terms of its storytelling, and certainly not in gameplay. But it manages to do what it set out to do by telling a heartfelt story about a person reconnecting with their small-town roots. This is the kind of game that I can recommend to anyone who is looking for a short and relaxing story experience with no real challenge in terms of gameplay.
Srinivas Naidu · Sep 12, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I don’t regret my stay in Providence Oaks, but like most vacations, I wish I had gotten to do more in the short time I had with the game. If you’re looking for a slice-of-life experience in a peaceful lake town and you don’t mind some bumps along the road, Lake might just be up your alley. If you want a narrative game with replay value where your choices affect the story, this vacation might leave you a little wanting.
Caitlin Argyros · Sep 07, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Lake feels almost intentionally designed to be boring and mundane, and it did get on my nerves at times. But unlike other similarly-themed art games out there, its premise is so humble and sweet, being so devoid of pretentiousness and arrogance, that it actually manages to deliver its message of making a fresh start and having a better life far away from the chaos of civilization. It is beyond flawed in terms of presentation and performance, however, so I would only recommend Lake to big art game fans and those into simple slice of like simulators, and only after a patch or two has been released.
Leo Faria · Sep 05, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - I think Lake succeeds in its aims, and that’s the important thing. It set out to be a slice of small-town life, and that’s what it is. I think there’s a rather narrow audience for that kind of thing, but it will be perfect for those who know what they’re getting into. If you think you’d be into a narrative about escaping the city life, then here it is. The writing is solid, the production values are decent for its asking price, so it’s worthwhile to check out of that’s your thing. As for me, I’m just eager to get back to the city.
