- Overall, my time with LA Cops wasn’t an unpleasant one, as it does offer some interesting gameplay ideas to an existing style, but sadly it does fall short on its execution. The 70’s motif is an interesting aspect that could have been a much more interesting concept to push the player’s actions forward, but it doesn’t. The idea of having two cops to use and being able to give them commands adds an cool twist to breaching into a room full of bad guys, but the realities of its AI collapses on itself, destroying most of its potential.
Dan Oravasaari · Apr 27, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It's hard to not feel cheated by the game. Aiming and AI are both unreliable at best, and enemies react in a way that make a heard of five-year-olds on a sugar rush seem tame. The result is a failed attempt at a top-down run-and-gun shooter, and a failed attempt at any sort of strategic entry. And it's a shame, because the flat colors and visuals are really nice, lending itself perfectly to the 70s vibe.
Lance Liebl · Apr 06, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - When all of the different mechanics in LA Cops come together, it can be a pretty fun and memorable experience; it's just a shame that things don't come together more often. The game rarely forces the player to use the teamwork mechanic, and since it's non-functional most of the time, we typically refrained from using it anyway. Ultimately, LA Cops is a decent, short run through a cop-themed shooter that doesn't do enough to really impress.
Tyler Treese · Mar 26, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - If you have $15 burning a hole in your pocket there are plenty of better ways to spend it than wasting it on LA Cops. You might dig the groovy aesthetic for a short while but inevitably you’ll walk away either bored or frustrated. Maybe just keep in mind you can get the original Hotline Miami for even less and have a lot more fun.
Shawn Petraschuk · Mar 20, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - LA Cops has the pieces that could have been used to build an interesting shooter, but they only occasionally come together. The result is a frequently maddening slog through isometric hell, framed by a broken story and sloppy mechanics, suggesting that what the game needed more than anything was further play testing and refinement. You're better off replaying something you already like that does a better job of treading similar ground, rather than enduring this cop story gone bad.
Jason Venter · Mar 17, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Visually the colors and designs of levels are fairly good for the genre. Everything from the graphics to the gameplay is simple and easy to learn. ...Regardless of it all, levels are still replayable, and at a price of 15 bucks, LA Cops is a bargain deal. Taking that bargain is a subject in its own, but at least you know your partner will not run out on you… or with you… or at all for that matter…
Devin Charles · Mar 16, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Despite exhibiting cool charm and unique aesthetics, LA Cops is ultimately a bland twin-stick shooter that does the bare minimum in gameplay and design. The execution of the mechanics and the AI is inconsistent and seriously dampens the gameplay. As far as indie titles on the Xbox One go, there is a ton coming out this year, and LA Cops is one game that can safely be ignored for better things.
Jahanzeb Khan · Mar 14, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - LA Cops is a neat diversion with some fantastic style. I had a blast in the short time I played it, but feel like it grows stale far too fast. This is the perfect game to snag during a sale, it is fun for the time it lasts, I just wish there was more to come back to once the raiding was over.
Ken McKown · Mar 13, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The pop minimalist art style of LA Cops is probably its most redeeming quality, sadly. Clean lines and high contrast colors make it stand out in the field of top-down shooters, and this design serves the gameplay by making it easy to pick out enemies and objectives. The visuals and the soundtrack, which consists of funky guitar tracks that fit neatly with the themes, are about the only elements of the game that aren't actively working against it.
Conrad Zimmerman · Mar 13, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The killing blow to LA Cops is that it never gets under your skin. It never becomes compulsive. With Hotline Miami, a game I’ve mentioned far too many times in this review but to be honest it’s LA Cops’ own fault, playing became instinctive and dying just means you try again with the adrenaline streaking through your veins. With LA Cops, death feels like a full-stop.
