- Despite being announced during a Nintendo Direct, the Switch version of this is rather subpar. This is a solid remaster of two of the best classic platformers you can find on the market, that would, unfortunately, be best played elsewhere. At least it’s nice to see that Klonoa is back!
Cullen Black · Aug 09, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Klonoa was a wonderful series that didn’t last very long. It is incredible to see it come back, and more beautiful than ever. These games are truly chill and a joy to play and I am thrilled to see them come back. I hope Bandai Namco decides to give us a truly resurgence of the series, and maybe even DLC to add the portable versions that came out along the way. It is awesome we live in an age where even some of the obscure classics can make a return. Klonoa is still as charming as ever and I don’t want the series to disappear for another handful of years.
Ken McKown · Aug 09, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - On the plus side, the core gameplay is largely untouched from the original, and the new additions are universally positive. Besides normal enemies that function as before there are a few special enemies that add some new puzzles and challenges to the game.
Samuel Corey · Aug 02, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It might be easy to say that Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is simply a pair of remastered games that can't compare to more modern platformers, but that's only half-true. Although their relatively low sales and cult status meant that the formula wasn't really given the chance to evolve, almost anyone can still jump into these games and have a good time.
Connor Trinske · Aug 01, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series does a great job of grouping two beloved but not well known games together in a package that works well on Nintendo Switch. The games have a charming visual style and a gameplay simplicity that I greatly appreciate. That said the game does have some unforgiving late game platforming that randomly pops up for no reason, some annoying voice over work, and a lackluster celebration for, you know, what’s supposed to be a series milestone.
Jesse Taylor · Jul 27, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a great collection for gamers who played the original games, but also for younger gamers or fans of platformers. The new difficulty levels are fun for children and the co-op feature is a nice touch if you wish to play together with a friend or with your kids.
Ibuki · Jul 24, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series isn’t quite the love letter these titles deserved, but at least there’s something here to remind us of one of Namco’s forgotten mascots.
David Morgan · Jul 21, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a collection of good, but not outstanding platformer remasters. They are charming as all hell and quite relaxing to play, but they feel dated in terms of its mechanics. Tying the reach of your attacks to the difficulty level of choosing was a totally unnecessary call, and its hit detection could have received some extra tinkering in order to feel less clunky.
Leo Faria · Jul 19, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is undoubtedly one of the best platforming collections on the market. Thanks to its enthralling level design, excellent puzzles, marvelous boss battles, and outstanding presentation, every platformer fan will assuredly fall in love with this mascot and series that has long deserved more attention.
Orpheus Joshua · Jul 19, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Overall, the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie series is an excellent remaster of two fantastic games that manage to subvert your expectations. Both games are awesome platformers that have a lot of ambition in their level design attached to them. The only real detriment is that both games are very short in length, clocking in at around 3-4 hours each for the initial completion.
