- PlayStation 4 is light on original content in these early days, but you're better off with a decent multiplatform shooter than Killzone's mundanity. With both Call of Duty and Battlefield available on PS4 day one, there's simply no reason to settle for Shadow Fall.
Jeremy Parish · Nov 14, 2014 Reviewed on PS4 - You might have some trouble getting invested in the political landscape of Vekta and New Helghan, but Killzone: Shadow Fall is still a rather enjoyable first-person shooter that offers something different from its contemporaries. Though it’s still not quite the elite franchise Sony and Guerrilla keep pining for Killzone to become, Shadow Fall’s strengths lie in doing something different from the beaten path.
Luke Brown · Dec 05, 2013 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - In fairness, the focus on the 'Warzone' setup, with a series of sequential gametypes that all take place in one session, fosters a feeling of cooperation, even in squads where no-one is talking. ...The ability system is also well thought out: being able to instantly spawn a shield or drone to help out in combat gives it a dynamism that that the weapons and maps don't. But ultimately this is pretty yet uninspired. Killzone, then.
Steven Burns · Nov 29, 2013 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The campaign, despite its pacing problems, some poor checkpointing and Guerrilla’s traditionally patchy dialogue, is the best day-one showcase of the new PlayStation’s capabilities. It’s first and foremost a firework display, an extravagant demonstration of next-gen processing power made by one of the most technically able studios in the business. It also happens to be a serviceable FPS. ...Here’s hoping that as the generation matures, the Helghast and their ilk get smarter.
Edge Staff · Nov 28, 2013 Reviewed on PS4 - Killzone Shadow Fall is an extremely solid shooter. ...And it’s beautiful. So wonderfully crafted, and a real step up from the PS3 generation of shooters. ...The multiplayer brings those solid shooting mechanics and blends it with something that’s very familiar for Killzone fans. ...As a package, it’s a superb launch title and a great first person shooter. Killzone’s back, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us next.
Blair Inglis · Nov 27, 2013 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Killzone: Shadow Fall is an interesting one. It’s a game that does nothing innovative or remarkable, but one that is well-paced, enjoyable and has stellar presentation and production values, both visually and from a sound design aspect. You’ll enjoy most of it, but it’s not the killer-app that Sony – or you, for that matter – may have wanted.
Dan Webb · Nov 27, 2013 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Killzone Shadow Fall tries to show it is here to hang with the big boys, but plays out more like a game that has taken from the best (Halo, COD, Metroid Prime etc.) and fail at everything those games executed so perfectly. While having excellent graphics, which can only get you so far, Killzone Shadow Fall is a rental at best unless you are a huge fan of the series. Shadow Fall is more of an attempt to do everything as awesome as it’s competitors but ultimately it becomes Shadow Fail.
Aaron Blevins · Nov 26, 2013 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - As a whole you can’t go wrong by including Killzone: Shadow Fall as part of your next gen PS4 package. It might be lacking in true next generation gameplay mechanics but it really shines when it comes to the new generation of graphics. Sony and Guerilla Games will surely continue to develop the franchise and I can honestly say without hesitation that the path they’re on is the right one.
Shawn Petraschuk · Nov 25, 2013 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - If you’re going to put a shooter out alongside your brand new expensive console, Guerrilla did it the right way. There are kinks, yes, but when we consider how the last six months seemingly taught us that the key to a console launch this year would be to not change things up too much, Shadow Fall makes me that much happier.
Phil Owen · Nov 20, 2013 Reviewed on PS4 - Shadow Fall's measure of success feels shallower than past games in the franchise, but all told it's a complete package for launch or Holiday 2013 PS4 owners. The system definitely has its catalogue of shooters, meaning stiff competition for the repetitive and unintuitive campaign in Shadow Fall, but Sony fans don't have to look far for a flag to wave in console-brand loyalty. Killzone has never looked this good.

Thirty years after the events of Killzone 3, the world is a very different place, with two rival factions, the Helghast and the Vektans, living side by side divided by a vast wall.
