- Killer Queen Black is pure, joyous fun. Get together with a group of friends and you’re guaranteed to have an absolute blast. There’s not too much to learn in terms of mechanics, but that doesn’t stop each game feeling fresh and different. It’s on Game Pass, and features cross play, so I’m hoping it can gather more of a community that it seems to have now. If it does, I can see KQB having a long life. Please, please check it out!
Jamie Collyer · Mar 28, 2021 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Killer Queen Black looks and plays like a retro platformer combined with 4v4 multiplayer matches. It is quite a fun game to play as the three methods to win a match will keep you moving through the entire match. You need to keep watch on the snail, while collecting berries for your hive and killing the enemy team’s queen. This game is perfectly playable with some friends in one team to battle with others online or battle against a team of AI opponents. The only bad thing we can mention about the game is the faulty striking that can sometimes occur while playing. The game is perfect for some couch co-op and could surely lead to some fun matches with friends or strangers online.
Nickskuh · Dec 12, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While Killer Queen Black is fun in short burst sessions, you won't have too much incentive to come back without cosmetics and a barebones ranking system. Communication with players online can be difficult, but you can maximize your enjoyment of Killer Queen Black with a group of friends.
Austin Suther · Nov 01, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Killer Queen Black is a surprisingly superb mix of action and strategy in a 2D arena. Levels, game modes and character choices are rather limited after repeated matches, but the action and strategy are enough to keep players invested simply by having a good time. Killer Queen Black is an exceptional choice for gamers that want quick fun in a 2D space.
Steven Weber · Oct 28, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - I was a little concerned about how well Killer Queen would translate when it came to home platforms. Fortunately, Liquid Bit was able to take all the mechanics of their arcade game and compress them into a version which retains all the chaos and urgency of the gameplay. Black is a little different from the Killer Queen I was used to. But it's still Killer Queen, and that makes it one of the best multiplayer games around.
Kevin McClusky · Oct 21, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Killer Queen Black is an excellent multiplayer game that’s surprisingly enjoyable online but even better when played with friends. While I wish the local options extended to two full teams on a single system, its absence is only one disappointment in an otherwise fantastically fun game.
Ryan Janes · Oct 16, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - With only a scant amount of truly unique experiences coming to the few reaming arcades in America, it is great that Killer Queen Black exists. This is an experience that you won’t get anywhere else, and it deserves to go beyond its current cult status. While there’s room for improvement everywhere outside of online, Black‘s singular focus delivers what you want if you’re looking for something new and different for your multiplayer rotation, even if it doesn’t reign king queen among those games.
Alex Santa Maria · Oct 16, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The satisfaction of spur-of-the-moment decisions, like sniping a Queen from the other side of the map with a carefully-timed laser gun blast, knocking an attacker pursuing your Queen off-kilter with a thrown berry, or eagerly shoving yourself in a snail's mouth pixels from the enemy goal in order to buy your teammates time to complete your berry hoard is consistently engaging. If you're looking for a unique, competitive multiplayer experience for online or local group play, Killer Queen Black is the bee's knees.
Heidi Kemps · Oct 12, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Not every game needs be dark and brooding. Not every game needs to be about connecting with your son or surrogate daughter as you fight brutal and evil foes. Sometimes, gameplay truly is king and all you need is to feel like your back in that arcade, wasting your day and allowance… Just don’t tell any of my co-writers that I said that.
Todd Eggleston · Oct 11, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Killer Queen Black is a fun and faithful recreation of the original arcade title. While the aspect of simulating ideal 4v4 local multiplayer matches has its technical issues, the transition from the arcade to home consoles surely doesn’t lose any of its competitive addictiveness.
