  • Kentucky Route Zero TV Edition is like a Michelin meal — rich, decadent, experimental, yet still somehow recognizable but best enjoyed in small portions. I can easily see how the critically-acclaimed Kentucky Route Zero could become someone’s favorite game, so it stands to reason that Kentucky Route Zero TV Edition would be another success after the episodic original’s completion.

  • Kentucky Route Zero is a game that took its time to tell its story in real-time hours and even in the game. The nearly dozen hours I spent playing the 5 episodes put me on a journey I won’t soon forget. With a rich cast of characters, unique storytelling across the five episodes, and excellent presentation make it is a must-play for fans of the point-and-click genre.

  • No one else will experience this or the log scene quite the same way I have. But somewhere in these painterly strokes and grand ambitions hangs tragedy and beauty in equal measure, an experience both wholly unique and painfully universal.

It’s something I don’t think I have ever seen done before, at least, not in this sort of scale. Fans of story driven games such as this will have a great time with it. Don’t expect a lot of action or hard puzzles. This is like cracking open a choose-your-own-adventure book and shaping the words on the page. If that is your thing, you’ll love this.

  • Those seeking a traditional gameplay or even narrative experience should steer clear, but if you understand what you’re getting into, you’ll find an interactive adventure that tells one of the most heartbreakingly human stories I’ve encountered in a game, and it does so with unparalleled style and beauty. Whether you’ve been waiting for the finale with bated breath since Act IV or holding off until the complete game became available to start from the beginning, you can rest assured that it is worth the wait.

  • Kentucky Route Zero is a rare video game that is able to find magic in the mundane, transforming a seemingly routine truck delivery into a fantastical odyssey through the heartland of Americana. There really isn't anything else quite like it.

  • Its storytelling is slow but purposeful and blends fiction, history, lore and the supernatural to conjure up an intricate portrait of America and its wanderers. Kentucky Route Zero is a compelling tragedy that focuses on the smaller, but no less important, stories of its characters.

  • Even with its faults, Kentucky Route Zero is well-written and contains wonderful art and sound design. I heard great things about Kentucky Route Zero before the release of its final act and I do see a special game inside, but there are too many noticeable issues for me to praise it on the same epitaph that others do. I hope that someday I might give it another shot and it will finally click.

  • Those intoxicated by the game’s dreamy brew may argue that there are no detours—that, like the Zero, you’re either on it or you’re not. If you’re anything like me and Conway, however, you’ll be somewhere in-between.

  • The gimmicks are unique, but that doesn’t mean they are enjoyable. The idea of what a game is has continued to evolve over time, and this is another title that continues to challenge our preconceived notions of what the medium is (and isn’t). For the traditional audience, though, it may be too off-kilter to enjoy.
