- I have only recently started Kalimba, but I can see this as being a title I return to until I beat it. Kalimba is perfect for sitting down with and enjoying a longer play session.
Christine Chan · Jul 07, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - The way that Kalimba builds levels around its swapping mechanic is exquisite. Every single level presents a new and creative challenge and not just a harder version of something that came before. Simply put, Kalimba's platforming is excellent and well worth your time and money.
Campbell Bird · Jul 05, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Feeling suitably like a ‘proper’ premium release, Kalimba is a delight through and through — and that’s just on the iPhone. On the iPad, you have the benefit of same device co-op which makes it all the more satisfying, while also potentially testing a few friendships too. Stick with those occasionally infuriating moments though, and you’ll be richly rewarded by an incredibly charming crossover of quick reflexes and lateral thinking.
Jennifer Allen · Jun 29, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Platformers have always been good at making me feel hopeless one moment and adept the next, and the genre has lately been fond of openly subverting its own rules to these ends. Kalimba does both, but its sun faded colours and personable demeanour make even the toughest losses feel oddly graceful.
Shaun Prescott · May 19, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - When a game leaves you simply asking for more, though, it’s hard to be too disappointed. What Kalimba lacks in substance, it more than makes up for in style. With inventive puzzles, tight controls, and colorful worlds, there’s more than enough to keep those twitch reflexes sharp, and Kalimba should prove to be plenty of fun for gamers looking to put their puzzle-platforming skills to the test.
Ray Carsillo · Jan 15, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - If you’re looking for a difficult yet incredibly fun platformer, look no further. While some of the game mechanics will leave you somewhat weary, overcoming the puzzles is very rewarding, especially when doing so with a friend. Kalimba offers a fresh new take on the traditional platformer, one that will cause both fits of rage and laughter. Priced at a mere $9.99, Kalimba is an experience that should not be missed.
Jennifer Dingle · Jan 09, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The beauty of Kalimba is in its high replay value, even more so than the gratification of solving its platforming puzzles. A lifetime of experience in this genre might lead to a gold totem in your first attempt in a given stage, but don't be disappointed if such achievements are rare.
Miguel Concepcion · Jan 06, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Push through its uneven beginning and you'll be rewarded with clever level layouts that stretch a solid mechanical framework to its limits. Getting to that point may be more frustrating than you'd like, though, thanks to its sharp difficulty curve. Kalimba's maddening co-op mode can also be worthwhile, though your partner will need to be at an even skill level and temperament if you're to remain friends afterward.
Danny Cowan · Dec 31, 2014 Reviewed on XB1 - Kalimba - in a lot of ways - is a throwback of sorts. It can be completed in a few short sittings, has an unrelenting difficulty level and features wonderful 2D art. However, the game also manages to put players in gaming situations they have never been in before. It's a surprisingly fresh experience that can be incredibly rewarding and despite it being seemingly impossible at times, players who love a sizable - but fair - challenge will find a lot to love within Kalimba.
Tyler Treese · Dec 30, 2014 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Kalimba is an enjoyable solo romp, but to get the full experience you're going to need a local co-op partner; trust me, the juice is worth the squeeze if a couch friend is hard to come by. That inherently limits the game, but since both adventures are worth playing through fully, there's a lot of meat here for a seemingly small puzzle title.
