- Whether it is fatigue or poor implementation, Just Cause 4 doesn’t feel like a true sequel. The issues I had with the third game have been fixed, but I still fell off this game much faster than I had anticipated. I adored the second game, dealt with the third one, but this fourth entry just lost its appeal far too quickly. It might be time to rethink and restructure the series, or perhaps move on to a new idea.
Ken McKown · Jan 09, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - If you’ve played a past Just Cause game, then you likely have experienced all of the best moments that Just Cause 4 is putting on display. A new region, some new gear, and a new checklist of tasks to accomplish isn’t enough to make up for the grueling hours you’ll have to put in doing the same tiresome missions over and over again just to reach its conclusion.
Logan Moore · Dec 20, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Just Cause 4 is easily the best game in the series, seamlessly combining its freedom of experimentation with its signature, action-packed concept. The addition of extreme weather effects, together with the game’s redefined functionalities, go hand in glove to produce wildly entertaining gameplay opportunities from the get-go. Unfortunately, the game’s weak story and its grindy structure ultimately pulls it just shy of greatness.
Anthony Cole · Dec 16, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Just Cause 4 is not a better game than its predecessor. In many ways, it feels like the same game, just with a new continent to explore. For some, this may be all they ever wanted, but for the rest of us, it's just not enough. The formula starts to show itself early and can feel monotonous only a few hours in. There will always be joy in the mass destruction of the Just Cause 4 games.
Patrick Hancock · Dec 15, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - To add insult to injury, the story feels bland and continues to make Rico one of gaming’s most uninteresting protagonists despite his wide array of skills and gadgets. Just Cause 4 isn’t a really bad game, it just has a lot of shortcomings and issues that hold it back from being something more than average at best and really mediocre at its worst.
Cade Onder · Dec 14, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - There are times when Just Cause 4 is amazing, but the final result is a game that loses parts of what made Just Cause great in the first place. The new mission structure repetitive and causes the series' staple destruction to take a backseat. The tether customization is top notch and the new weapons are a winner, but things like throwable C4 are gone.
Mike Williams · Dec 12, 2018 Reviewed on PS4 - I’ve not had this much fun playing a game this year, and each time I sit down for a session, I either discover something new to do, or find a new way to unleash my penchant for destruction upon the island of Solis. Gaming is the perfect escape from the stresses of the real world, and in real life, I’m a mild-mannered guy who loves his cat and his wife. But when I’m Rico Rodriguez, I am Chaos, the Bringer of Death. And I love it.
Jon Hueber · Dec 12, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Just Cause 4 certainly isn’t a bad game, but it feels a bit like a wasted opportunity. The fun you can have outside of the game’s campaign shows that the world and the tools you’re given work in harmony with each other, but you’re never given the freedom to really make use of them during missions. It’s like being given a box full of LEGO but then being told you can only use the old-fashioned system bricks to build with; you know there’s fun to be had, but your creativity is stifled.
Richard Seagrave · Dec 11, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I had fun playing Just Cause 4, but I imagine there are a lot of people who won’t finish it. That isn’t to say there aren’t reasons to jump back in and mess around with the physics or track down all of the Easter eggs, but is that enough? The allure of the explosions will wear off in time, but for the right price, anyone can enjoy their own revolution for a little while.
Stephen Wilds · Dec 11, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you can devise a stupid and dangerous use for Rico’s grappler, you can probably pull it off – and I’ve got a hard-drive full of hilarious videos to prove it. Just like any good sandbox game, Just Cause 4 gives you the freedom to make your own fun, and has kept me experimenting and entertained for hours after the credits rolled.
