Joint Task Force has an interesting storyline and a particularly deep set of customization options for tweaking units. With a focus on commanding small groups of units under strict financial limitations, JTF requires you to frequently repair and reload after battle which can bog things down. Then there's the fact that many of the game's units get wiped out very quickly, usually forcing a reload if they were on the more expensive side.

  • As interesting as some of its ideas are though, this seems doomed to having them all stolen by subsequent titles that can actually incorporate them into a game with some proper strategy and depth. Decent mission design and a game setting that's something more than a rallying call for the Stop the War collation would be nice too.

  • Joint Task Force is a game that exhibits flashes of fun at times, like when you finally cut loose with your Apache helicopters and have them mercilessly hunt enemies down on the map. Still, it's hard to recommend this game unless you're really into strategy games that require heavy micromanagement.

  • Joint Task Force doesn’t break any new ground, but it doesn’t have to. It boasts simplistic, pick-up-and-play mechanics that make this one an absolute blast for short or even long gaming spurts. It doesn’t skimp on depth despite its simplicity, either. You still have all the objectives, equipment, and features that you’ve become accustomed to over the years.

  • Joint Task Force delivers a distinctive and modern interpretation of real-time strategy, enjoyable in its own quirky way. It ain't perfect, but it proves fulfilling once you've taken a few learning curve lumps.

  • All of which feature listing brings us back to the wrongness. The missions are beautifully detailed, but characterless. The acting is just a few inflections the wrong side of ham. The units simply don't pack the punch you want from modern combat, and that lack of zing is pretty much found throughout the game.
